COPS have found a missing mother and baby after a human placenta was found at a busy Manchester park.

Greater Manchester Police responded to frantic calls from Werneth Park, in Oldham, at around 2.40pm on Friday.

The force were called by a shocked member of the public after a “suspicious item” was found.

It was later confirmed the remains were from a human placenta, according to medical experts.

They also determined it was likely the birth had occurred within the last 24 hours.

Detective Inspector Andy Day of the Oldham district had issued an urgent appeal to trace the missing mum and baby.

He added “our investigation is not a criminal one”, but focused on their “welfare”.

The mother and newborn have since been found “safe and doing well”.

There were “no untoward circumstances”, said the force.

A GMP spokesperson said in their latest update: “Following our earlier appeal in relation to a placenta which was found in Werneth Park, Oldham, earlier today (Friday 28 March 2025), we have now located mum and baby.

“We are pleased to say that they are both safe and doing well.
Alongside medical professionals, we have conducted several enquiries and are satisfied that the identity of those who have come forward match the placenta found.

“The scene will now close, and our investigation has concluded that there are no untoward circumstances.

“We want to thank members of the public who have assisted us and cooperated with the closure of the park today, and hope that this update provides closure to any earlier concerns.”

This comes as cops are still hunting for the mother of a newborn baby boy who was found dead in a shopping bag.

A refuse worker made the tragic discovery outside All Saints Church in Notting Hill, West London, at just before 1pm on March 25.

Police on Wednesday issued an update on the shocking mystery, revealing how the tot was found and urging the mother to come forward amid urgent fears for her welfare.
