A trailer for embattled movie Rust, starring Alec Baldwin, has been released
Hayla was fatally shot on the set of the film
The movie, set in 1880s Kansas, is finally due to be released after the legal complications.
A synposis for the impending release tells how orphan Lucas McCalister, played by Patrick Scott McDermott “accidentally kills a rancher and is sentenced to hang.”
The description continues: “In a twist of fate, his estranged grandfather, the notorious outlaw Harland Rust (Baldwin), breaks him out of jail and takes him on the run toward Mexico.
“As they flee across the unforgiving wilderness, the fugitive pair must outrun the determined U.S. Marshal Wood Helm (Josh Hopkins) and a ruthless bounty hunter named Preacher (Travis Fimmel).”
The film is finally due for release after a manslaughter charge against Alec, who fired the shot, was dropped.
The case was dismissed after a New Mexico judge discovered prosecutors were withholding key evidence.
Last July, Alec wept in court and embraced his wife Hilaria after Judge Mary Marlowe Sommer delivered her ruling on the involuntary manslaughter charge.
Despite the film now being set for release in May, Hutchins’ mother opted not to support its release.
Olga Solovey, Hutchins’ mother, slammed Alec to The Hollywood Reporter last year upon confirmation that the movie would be released.
She said to the publication: “Alec Baldwin continues to increase my pain with his refusal to apologize to me and his refusal to take responsibility for her death.
“Instead, he seeks to unjustly profit from his killing of my daughter.
“That is the reason why I refuse to attend the festival for the promotion of Rust, especially now when there is still no justice for my daughter.”
The movie first premiered last November at Poland’s Camerimage Festival. Alec was not invited to attend.
The lawyer for Hutchins’ family, Gloria Allred, added to THR: “The decision not to even call the family to say he is sorry is cruel and dishonors Halyna and her memory.
“Now, a decision has been made to promote Rust to buyers in order to make a profit for Alec Baldwin and others that had a role in Halyna’s death.”
She concluded that the family “will not agree with this plan to exploit Halyna’s death.”
Hutchins was killed in October 2021 when Baldwin was using what he thought was a prop gun with fake bullets.
However, the actor was unaware that Gutierrez-Reed had mistakenly loaded a live bullet into the weapon.
Prosecutors have claimed that Baldwin was reckless with a firearm on the set, endangering others.
Baldwin has insisted that he never fired the gun, only simply cocked its hammer.
However, prosecutors have argued the gun could not have been fired otherwise.
