Thunderstorm Artis Showcases His Original Music On American Idol
Nashville-based singer/songwriter Thunderstorm Artis is proving to be a multi-talented artist as he continues to perform his original music on American Idol.
Originally from Hawaii, Artis first impressed the judges during his audition with his original song “Don’t Let Me Let You Go.” He explained that the song was inspired by his marriage and emphasized the importance of finding an “anchor” in your partner.
Carrie Underwood called the song “beautiful” and “relatable.” Lionel Richie added:
“There’s a point in this competition where we’re looking for people who stand out, and man, you jumped all the way out.”
Keen-eyed fans may notice that Thunderstorm Artis looks familiar. The aspiring musician competed on Season 18 of The Voice in 2020, where his blind audition earned a four-chair turn from then-coaches Blake Shelton, John Legend, Nick Jonas, and Kelly Clarkson.
Artis consistently impressed throughout his time on The Voice and ultimately placed third in the finale. In the five years since then, he has continued to pursue music and has also welcomed two beautiful sons with his wife, Faith.
The Idol Hopeful Performs Song Written For His Wife During Hollywood Week
March 31st marked the first episode of American Idol’s “Hollywood Week,” which took place at Los Angeles’ Orpheum Theater – the same theater where Carrie Underwood’s Hollywood Week was held twenty years ago.
During the “Idol Arena” round, Thunderstorm Artis once again showcased an original song inspired by his wife. The 29-year-old shared:
“This song I’m gonna sing for you guys is called ‘My Last Dying Breath.’ I wrote this for my beautiful wife. She’s the strongest woman I know and so I hope you guys enjoy it.”
Fellow Idol competitors immediately rose to their feet, showing support as Artis performed. The emotion of the song was palpable, and afterward, the contestant earned a standing ovation from all three judges.
Ultimately, the performance paid off, and Thunderstorm Artis will move on to the “Showstopper” round next week.
