In an interview, Adam Levine shared his excitement about working with long-time friend and fellow musician Kate Hudson, reflecting on their personal connection and professional experiences together. Levine revealed that he has known Adam since high school, and the two have shared a strong bond for many years. He describes Adam as playful, fun, and consistent, noting that his attitude hasn’t changed since their younger days.
Adam, who also shared his thoughts about Kate, said, “It was so easy to do this with her today because she’s the best.” He also expressed how Kate’s presence makes everything feel familiar yet surreal. Their friendship, stemming from their high school days, made collaborating even more enjoyable. Levine fondly recalled that Adam was always passionate about music, especially when he was in a band during high school, a period he described as “serious,” even though not many high school bands reached the same level of commitment.
The conversation then shifted to Levine’s experience mentoring aspiring artists on The Voice. He spoke about how much he enjoys teaching, particularly emphasizing the importance of storytelling in music. Levine explained that while technical skill is crucial, it’s the ability to convey emotion and connect with an audience that truly defines a great performance. This is something he has focused on throughout his career, and he appreciated the opportunity to pass this knowledge on to the contestants.
Kate and Adam also discussed the dynamics between mentors and contestants. They both find it rewarding to see artists react to their guidance, as they often get nervous or surprised when they realize who they are working with. The mentors play a significant role in helping contestants grow, and Levine noted that he enjoys watching their reactions, adding that the experience can be nerve-wracking for the contestants, but in a positive way.
As Levine reflected on his return to The Voice, he shared how much he missed the competitive aspect of the show, particularly going up against other great artists. He admitted that although he loves the thrill of competition, the real fun lies in working with talented individuals and seeing how everyone grows.
Levine also addressed the camaraderie between him and Blake Shelton, another The Voice coach, humorously describing their playful banter. He mentioned that, while he had always relied on Blake as his “security blanket” on the show, his absence created a strange dynamic for him. Without Blake there to deflect with jokes or light-hearted teasing, Levine noted that the atmosphere felt different. Despite the change, he still enjoys working with his fellow coaches, including John Legend, Kelsey, and Michael, who have become a great team.
When asked if he could ever return to being a mentor on the show, Levine responded with enthusiasm. He expressed that being a part of The Voice has been one of the most fulfilling aspects of his career. Reflecting on his veteran status, Levine humbly added that he likes to think he has gained some wisdom from his years of experience and is always ready to share pearls of wisdom with others. He acknowledged that while a lot has changed over the years, the fun and camaraderie of the group remain a constant highlight.
