Matt first appeared on Jeopardy! in 2021 and won 38 consecutive fees and gained $1,518,601 in prize-winnings.

Victoria GroceYogesh Raut, and returning champ James Holzhauer were the final three players in the second Masters tournament.

Matt bowed out earlier in the contest, but has been commentating on social media ever since.

He came third in Jeopardy! Masters in 2023 and returned to give his thoughts on this year’s big win.

Jeopardy! fans slam Masters contestant for ‘trying to correct Ken Jennings’

“Thank you to @GraceWithAnO [Victoria Groce], Yogesh, @James_Holzhauer, @Jeopardamy, and @mattearoach for being fantastic company on a crazy journey!” he wrote on social media.

“In an environment with objectively a lot at stake, you all prioritized camaraderie over competition (but also kicked ass at the competition!)” he completed.

Matt came sixth in 2024’s Masters tournament and bagged himself $50,000.

The New York-based mathematician game third to Victoria and James on May 16, which knocked him out of the contest.

During the fast-paced first round, which saw Victoria take a commanding lead early in the game, Matt attempted a comeback when he responded to the $800 clue for the category “I Want Candy.”

The prompt read, “Jelly Belly puts out every flavour beans, including earthworms & earwax, under the name of this Harry Potter confectioner.”

Matt rang in and answered, “What is Bernie Bott,” quickly adding the “S” sound to complete the possessive in Bott’s.

Still, despite his attempt to correct himself, host Ken Jennings, 49, curtly responded, “No.”

UNFAIR RULING?

Several fans thought this was unfair as James then buzzed in straight after and answered correctly, but stuttered and made a mistake.

“What is Bertie Bott… Bertie Bott’s Every Flavoured Beans.”

Still hesitant, Ken replied, “Yeah, we’ll take that. That’s the name of the product.

“Justice for Matt!” wrote one passionate fan on Reddit, who thought Ken’s decision was unfair.

“I heard ‘Bertie Botts’ not ‘Bernie Botts.’ I’ve never been so disappointed in my entire life about anything, ever.”

“I think we can give the nerds the benefit of the doubt that they know their Harry Potter,” joked another fan.
