Jeopardy! legend drops shady social media post about how badly the ToC is going for frontrunners

His ruthless comment comes after champs like Cris Pannullo and Ray LaLonde lost upon arrival

Jeopardy!’s 2024 Tournament of Champions has gone so poorly for its top seeds that Matt Amodio couldn’t resist buzzing in about it.

The 38-time champion, who faced an early exit in the previous ToC, is returning in May for Jeopardy! Masters Season 2.

The 2024 Tournament of Champions premiered on Friday, February 23, and so far there have been upsets across the board.

Big names like Cris Pannullo, Hannah Wilson, and Juveria Zaheer have all been knocked out upon arrival.

None of the semifinalists so far notched more than five wins during their initial runs, an outcome no one expected.

Most shockingly, on Monday, actor Ike Barenholtz beat 13-day champ Ray Lalonde.

Celebrity Jeopardy! winner achieves the unthinkable in Tournament of Champions

Taking to X after that jaw-dropping match, Matt, 39, couldn’t resist pouring some salt on the wound.

He wrote: “Losing your #Jeopardy ToC debut from the first podium was cool when I started it, but now it’s just getting old… ”

The first podium is where the contestant with the most prior wins going in is placed for the ToC.

Amodio was referring to his shock elimination by Sam Buttery in the prior ToC, which pales in comparison to the upsets this year.

‘LOL!’

One fan replied: “Lol!”

Another wrote: “I know! I’m so sad the two people I was looking forward to seeing the most are gone already hopefully they get brought back for a masters tournament or something.”

A third wrote alongside a Gif of Ike Barenholtz: “Things do happen.”

A fourth wrote: “My sentiments exactly, but I must say that the celebrity guy (sorry never heard of him) was a formidable opponent and a worthy winner.”

TOC YA LATER!

At long last, Jeopardy! fans are getting the strike-delayed 2024 Tournament of Champions, the game show’s most treasured tradition.

Now it’s finally back with an unprecedented 27 contestants (the largest playing field ever).

But as Matt hinted, there hasn’t been a game yet in the quarterfinals where the presumed front-runner wound up winning.

21-day champion and golden boy Cris Pannullo lost in a blowout to three-day champ Jared Watson.

Then, eight-win trans sensation Hannah Wilson lost on an oversized Daily Double bet to four-day winner David Sibley.

Comeback queen and fan-favorite Juveria Zaheer lost to five-day champ Luigi de Guzman.

Then, the contest’s second super-champion, the gentlemanly Canadian Ray Lalonde (13 wins), lost to none other than Celebrity Jeopardy! winner Ike Barenholtz.

Fans called Ike’s win “the craziest thing to ever happy in the history of Jeopardy!” on social media.

WHAT IS: THE FORMAT?

The 2024 ToC starts with nine quarterfinal games, where one player advances.

Then there will be three semifinals and a first-to-three-wins finale.

That means the final three contestants could duke it out over three games or up to seven.

The ToC will conclude in late March, with the victor earning $250,000, a championship belt, an invite to the next Jeopardy! Masters in May, and serious bragging rights.

Meanwhile, former champ Ken Jennings is now the sole host after Mayim Bialik was fired from the syndicated series in December.

Ken spoke up about her shock departure last month saying he “understood” the decision– “TV show’s don’t have two hosts.”
