JEOPARDY! fans might be about to score a new host for the show’s upcoming Pop Culture spinoff on Amazon Prime.
Katie Nolan, 37, a former ESPN host, podcaster, and the runner-up on Celebrity Jeopardy! 2023, hinted she’s in talks for the big gig.
Pop Culture Jeopardy! is a brand-new spinoff debuting on Amazon Prime in the coming months (premiere date TBA).
But who would host the fresh take on Jeopardy! has been anyone’s guess – perhaps until now.
On Tuesday, Katie was the guest on the “What is… A Jeopardy! Podcast.”
During the interview, she refused to confirm or deny that she was in talks for the role instead of Ken Jennings.
“There has been some speculation online about you as the potential host for Pop Culture Jeopardy!,” podcast host Emily Heller asked.
“Can you respond to those rumors at all?”
“I can’t,” Katie replied, getting a giant laugh from the interviewer, who sounded surprised.
“But I will say that I would love that, and that would be something I’d be interested in having a conversation about.”

She clarified, “Whether or not I’ve had the conversation, I will just say I can’t respond.”
“But I will say it was an honor to even be mentioned.
“I’m in the Jeopardy subreddit, and one day, I saw someone mention me, and I said, ‘That’s me! That’s sick!’”
“No one knows what can ever happen. What’s meant to come to you will come to you.
“So we’ll just wait and see,” she closed.
NEW HOST NOLAN?
Pop Culture Jeopardy! was announced in May and is the first version of the long-running trivia show to be exclusively on streaming.
As The U.S. Sun was the first to report, Katie dropped an early hint she’d be involved.
Right when the spinoff was announced, Katie quietly retweeted the news from Jeopardy! when it broke.
She also has close ties with showrunner Michael Davies and recently toured with the game show on Inside Jeopardy! Live.
Viewers took to Reddit thinking her re-post was a sign, especially since sports falls under pop culture.
“Katie Nolan retweeted this article and has worked with Michael Davies before,” one Redditor wrote at the time. “That would be fun,” agreed another.
During Inside Jeopardy! Live in New York City in the spring, EP Davies also stated he wanted to diversify the show with “non-white, male hosts” for future spinoffs.
Katie left ESPN in 2023 and previously hosted Fox Sports’ Garbage Time until 2017, where she became famous for her hot takes.
She got engaged to comedian Dan Soder in December 2022.
KATIE AS A CONTESTANT
Katie competed in Season 2 of Celebrity Jeopardy! hosted by Ken this winter and reached the finals.
She was quite the hoot and threw some smack-talk at her male competitors who’d previously competed during the $1 million charity tournament.
In one episode, she dissed Single White Female actor Steven Weber, 62.
Steven was bragging on-stage about how he had swept a New York Times Obituaries category.
Katie turned to him and coyly asked, “Looking for your friends?” causing gasps from the audience.
She also beat Law and Order’s Christopher Meloni in the first round on an ultra-rare tiebreaker clue, who reportedly was not happy about it.
Katie lost the special to Lisa Ann Walter of Parent Trap in the finale, who won the grand prize.
WHAT IS: POP CULTURE JEOPARDY?
Amazon Prime Video picked up a fresh take on Jeopardy! that will stream exclusively on the platform.
The spinoff will be called Pop Culture Jeopardy! and will feature three big changes to the format.
Instead of answering general knowledge questions like the players on the standard edition of the game show, contestants will answer questions about pop culture subjects like music, movies, sports, TV, and more.
In addition, the show will only be streaming instead of on broadcast TV, like the nightly show.
Finally, there won’t be three individual contestants competing against each other. Instead, there will be three three-person teams facing off.
Jeopardy.com describes it as follows: “Contestants, playing in teams of three, will need to be experts in categories from Alternative Rock to The Avengers, Broadway to MMA, Gen Z to Zendaya.
Jeopardy! Host Timeline

Jeopardy! has had a tumultuous history regarding hosts after the death of the iconic Alex Trebek in 2020. Here are all of the hosts since the game show’s inception in 1964.
Art Fleming – 1964 to 1975, he was the original host of the daytime version of Jeopardy! on NBC.
Alex Trebek – 1984 to 2020, the late, great Alex hosted Jeopardy!’s modern iteration for 36 years until his death from pancreatic cancer.
Guest hosts – 2020 to 2021, Jeopardy! tested out a series of guest hosts for week or two-week stints, including Anderson Cooper, LaVar Burton, and Aaron Rodgers.
Mike Richards – 2021, he was named host for one week before resigning amid controversy. He was the show’s executive producer at the time.
Mayim Bialik – 2021 to 2023, when Mike was announced as the show’s new host, Mayim was chosen to host tournaments and primetime specials.
Mayim and Ken Jennings – 2022 to 2023, 74-time champion Ken (the longest-winning contestant ever) joined Mayim as a guest host and they split hosting duties.
Ken Jennings – 2023 to present. Last December, Mayim announced on Instagram that she would “no longer” host Jeopardy! after a lengthy hiatus, having stood with the writer’s strike, and Ken was named sole host.
Ken now helms all editions of Jeopardy! including Celebrity Jeopardy!, the nightly show, and other primetime specials like Masters.
“They compete in a tournament-style event for the grand prize and ultimate bragging rights.”
The announcement never mentioned sole Jeopardy! host Ken or the fired Mayim Bialik were involved.
Other names fans were floating include former champs Buzzy Cohen and Sam Buttrey.
Pop Culture Jeopardy! will have further details in the coming months, including its premiere date and host.
