THERE’S no telling what people will say on television, especially with the added pressure of tricky questions and time constraints.

After begging a game show contestant to “please, please, please get this,” question right, Family Feud host Steve Harvey looked visibly distraught at her answer – and in utter disbelief at the question itself.

FAMILY FEUD: OPERATION EDITION

During Tuesday’s episode of Family Feud, Steve Harvey read out one of the show’s most jaw-dropping questions to date.

“Top eight answers on the board,” Steve, wearing a striking red suit, told the contestants.

“What might a dumb guy buy from a hardware store for a do-it-yourself vasectomy?” Steve asked, reading off his cue cards.

Contestant Holly was the first to buzz in with an answer, and she confidently shouted out, “Screwdriver!”

“Huh?” Steve looked at her, then at the audience, with his mouth agape and a blank stare on his face.

“Screwdriver,” she repeated eagerly, as two of her family members, Mandi and Mae Mae, shouted “good answer” and “good answer, girl,” behind her.

Unfortunately, “screwdriver” didn’t make the cut, and the all-too-familiar buzzer went off.

Steve Harvey turned his attention to Bobby Rush, who Holly was directly facing off with.

“Scalpel,” he answered, adding: ‘in the country, we gonna have that.”

Scalpel – categorized as “Knife/Blades” turned out to be the number one answer, with 16 out of 100 people responding in kind.

Steve then walked over to the Rush family’s matriarch, Mrs. Bea, giving her a shot to answer the question.

“A hammer,” Mrs. Bea replied, adding: “Just crack them nuts.”

The answer turned out to be in the eighth spot on the board, with five other individuals feeling the same.

Harold was next, answering “a watch, Steve!”

Steve erupted into laughter as he walked away from the family.

“A watch at a hardware store,” he yelled out, kneeling over while he laughed.

The answer wasn’t up on the board, giving the Rush family their first strike.

“Plier, Steve!” Gret yelled out, which turned out to be in the second spot.

Marsha’s answer – tape – ended up earning the Rush family their second strike.

Bobby was next, yelling out “hacksaw” which made its way on the board as “chainsaw.”

Steve then returned to Bea, aka “Mrs. Bea” for another shot at the board.

“Please….please get this,” Steve urged.

“Oh, I can’t remember,” Bea answered, shaking her head as the buzzer rang.

Steve then walked over to the Soignier family, who had a shot at stealing the Rush family’s points.

Not everyone who watches Family Feud is in on the joke, however, with some viewers criticizing the show's "inappropriate" questions and answers for a "family" show

“Alright family, what might a dumb guy buy from a hardware store for a do-it-yourself vasectomy?” Steve asked again.

“Like a staple gun, a nail gun? Make sure I clamped it off real good,” Mandi answered.

Steve’s jaw dropped, but he recovered quickly after hearing the buzzer, taking some time to rattle off the rest of the answers.

The remaining answers were a drill, wire cutter, scissors, and hedge trimmer.

More about Steve Harvey

Steve Harvey was born on January 17, 1957, in Welch, West Virginia. He is the host of Family Feud, The Steve Harvey Morning Show, and comedy court series Judge Steve Harvey.

“Dumbest question ever. This one takes the cake,” wrote one user.

“Terrible question,” wrote another user, adding: “if this were the first time I had seen the program, there would be no second.”

“This question is crazier than some of the most popular answers on Family Feud,” wrote another user.

“Looks like they’re running out of ideas for these questions. Might be time to hire some new question writers,” added another user.

“The question is not HOW did your writers come up with this, the question is WHY did you green light it??” commented another user.

Family Feud’s social media team likely felt the same way, titling the three-minute clip: “WTF?? How did our writers come up with this question??”

Still, some fans seem to have enjoyed the wacky questions – and answers.

As of Wednesday, July 3, 2024, the YouTube clip has amassed over 80,000 views and more than 1,400 likes.

FAMILY TRADITIONS

Family Feud is no stranger to unhinged questions, answers, and Steve Harvey’s now-infamous, over-the-top reactions.

During an episode that aired in June 2024, contestants were asked to “name a green vegetable that the Jolly Green Giant’s wife might compare his manhood to.”

“I’m gonna say one of those really big zucchinis,” one player answered, leaving Steve shell-shocked as the audience cheered and jeered in the background.

In an episode from Monday, July 1, 2024, Steve read off a seemingly-normal question.

“If you switch bodies with your dog, what’s the first thing you would do?” he asked.

While the game show follows a rigid format, each episode is funnier than the last due to the show's contestants, their unhinged responses, and Steve Harvey's quick wit

One of the show’s contestants, Latrell, leaned into the mic and answered bluntly: “Lick yourself.”

“Yes!” Steve shouted as he walked across the stage.

“Lick myself all day. I would quit my job!” he yelled.

The answer, which popped up in the number one slot, caused the family to win the game and move on to the Fast Money round.
