Angelina Jolie recently made headlines when her daughter, Vivienne Jolie-Pitt, made a surprise appearance with her on The Today Show. Vivienne, who has been working alongside the cast of the Broadway musical The Outsiders, joined her mother as a volunteer assistant, showcasing the close bond between mother and daughter.

The Outsiders is an adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s classic novel and Francis Ford Coppola’s 1983 film of the same name. The Broadway musical explores the struggles of youth and the challenges of growing up, highlighting both the darker aspects of life and the resilience of family. During the interview, Angelina discussed how the musical does not shy away from life’s hardships. “When anyone comes to see this, it doesn’t stay away from the darker sides of life—there’s a lot we have to discuss and feel. But in the end, what gets us through it all is family,” Angelina emphasized.

The production truly became a family affair, with Vivienne stepping in to assist her mother and the cast. When asked about how Vivienne became involved in the project, Angelina explained, “She did. I think that’s something for anyone watching or attending the show to take away—this is about family and community.”

Angelina expressed gratitude for the opportunity to work with her daughter on such a meaningful project. “The reason I responded to this project, the same reason Vivienne wanted me to be there with her, the same reason we all hugged when I came out here, is because this is about family and community,” Angelina said.

Since its debut last month, The Outsiders has received widespread acclaim and earned 12 Tony Award nominations. Reflecting on the news, Angelina shared a touching moment: “I woke up, and my daughter was sitting on my bed. She told me the news, and I was overwhelmed. I love this group so much and am incredibly proud of the work they’ve done. Awards don’t always define quality, but when people you care about and who have worked hard get recognized, it means a great deal.”

For Angelina and Vivienne, this production has been a passion project. The mother-daughter duo enjoys collaborating professionally, as Angelina revealed during the play’s opening night: “I feel like my world expands as their world expands.”

A source told Entertainment Tonight last year that Vivienne is not focused on being in the spotlight but is more interested in supporting other creatives. “Vivienne is thoughtful and serious about theater. She works hard to understand how she can best contribute. She’s always learning, trying to be better, and I hope others strive for the same honesty,” the source explained.

Vivienne’s involvement in The Outsiders is not her first experience working with her famous mother. At just five years old, Vivienne played a young Princess Aurora in Maleficent alongside Angelina. Now 15, Vivienne continues to follow in her actor parents’ footsteps, proving her dedication to the craft by working closely with the cast in The Outsiders.

Angelina expressed hope for more professional collaborations with Vivienne in the future. “I’m a mom, so that’s my thing,” Angelina said, reflecting on the unique experience of balancing motherhood and her career.

As Vivienne grows both personally and professionally, fans can look forward to more moments where this talented mother-daughter duo brings their shared passion for storytelling to audiences worldwide.
