RIOT FEST Riotland is back with a new venue in 2024.
The annual punk rock music festival recently announced a new location along with its new lineup.
Where is RiotLand?
On June 11, 2024, ahead of revealing the 2024 lineup, Riot Fest announced that it would leave its Douglass Park home in Chicago.
They simply said that the festival would take place in RiotLand, but stopped short of revealing where RiotLand was.
The following day, Riot Fest announced that their 2024 venue will be SeatGeek Stadium in Bridgeview, Illinois.
Riot Fest had been held in Douglass Park from 2015 until 2023.
The festival, which regularly attracts 50,000 people, will begin on September 20, 2024, and end on September 22.
Why did Riot Fest move?
According to ABC Chicago, in 2023, many residents protested in opposition to the music festival being held in Douglass Park.
In a video shared on social media, festival organizer Riot Mike wrote, “Riot Fest will be leaving Douglass Park.
“And – allow me to be as clear as the azure sky of the deepest summer – our exodus is solely because of the Chicago Park District.
“Their lack of care for the community, you and us, ultimately left us no choice.”
The Chicago Park District issued a statement in response.
They said, “The Chicago Park District has learned indirectly that the organizers of Riot Fest have stated they do not intend to go forward with their event in Douglass Park this September.
“The permit application for the event has not been withdrawn, and in fact it is currently pending provisional approval by the Park District Board of Commissioners.”
Before moving to Douglass Park in 2015, Riot Fest took place in Humboldt Park since 2005.
According to Block Club Chicago, the festival moved from Humboldt Park in 2015 due to pushback from neighbors.
Who is on the 2024 Riot Fest Lineup?
The 2024 Riot Fest lineup features some of the biggest headliners in rock music.
Chicago-formed rock band Fall Out Boy will headline the festival’s first night on Friday, September 20, 2024.
Beck and Pavement will close out the Saturday show on September 21, 2024.
Slayer will headline on Sunday as part of the few reunion shows that the band is doing.
Other bands like The Offspring, Public Enemy, St. Vincent, Sublime, and Bright Eyes will also perform at the festival.
NOFX will play all three days as part of their farewell tour.
The Marley Brothers, Ziggy, Stephen, Julian, Ky-Mani, and Damian, are also scheduled for the festival.
