A MUSIC legend has cancelled his gigs and announced his retirement from touring, after suffering from ‘memory issues.’
Johnny Mathis, 89, the legendary singer, has decided to retire from the road as he approaches his 90th birthday.
The star’s announcement was shared to his Facebook page, and read: “While there are still some exciting concerts coming up, regrettably all Johnny Mathis concerts from June 2025 onwards are now cancelled.
“Please read the notice below, and contact individual venues directly with all ticket questions. Refunds will be made through the original point of purchase. Thank you, Mathis Fans.”
There was a huge reaction to fans who were saddened by the news, but also showed an outpouring of support for the talented musician.
In a second update, they added: “Wow. Thank you so very much on Johnny’s behalf for your kind messages! To answer a couple repeat questions…
“Its a lovely idea, but unfortunately filming or streaming the final concerts is not going to be possible. We’re sorry for any disappointment.
“Johnny is just retiring from touring and concerts, so the good news is there is potentially new music in the works. Check back for news on this.
“The final concerts are just in the U.S., and these dates can be found on the official Johnny Mathis website below.Thank you on Johnny’s behalf for all your support of his music.”
Johnny has had a very impressive career, and was the third best selling artist of the 20th century, amongst the likes of Frank Sinatra and Tony Bennett.
At the height of his fame, the crooner sold 360 million records worldwide, and he has a reported net worth of $400million, as a result of that success.
And he has a very impressive catalog, despite mainly being coined as a ‘romantic’ singer.
Johnny’s music includes pop, R&B, Latin American, country, blues, soft rock and more.
He’s recorded a huge 73 studio albums, and had five albums on the Billboard charts simultaneously, which has only been equalled by three other singers – Prince, Sinatra and Barry Manilow.
He has many well known songs, including Chances Are, All The Time, The Twelfth of Never, When Sunny Gets Blue, When I Am With You, and more.
In 2018, the singer spoke about his health and how it would influence the length of his career.
Johnny’s cancelled tour dates

All shows scheduled for after May 18, and ticket holders will be refunded.
July 15th – Beau Rivage Resort – CANCELLED
August 23rd – American Music Theatre – CANCELLED
October 11th -Hanover Theatre – CANCELLED
November 8th – Academy Of Music at Kimmel Center – CANCELLED
He said: “It revolves around whether or not you’re physically able and in good health.
“That’s the most important thing because you won’t feel like doing anything if you’re not healthy. And being a vocalist, you have another thing to worry about.
“The vocals cords are flesh and blood so anything can happen to them … You take care of the thing that got you to the dance.”
