GREEN Day is facing an onslaught of boycott calls after its lead singer defiantly held up a Trump mask just weeks after the former president was shot.
Billie Joe Armstrong, 52, stirred controversy by deeming Donald Trump an “idiot” in a bold onstage stunt at a concert Monday.

On Monday, pop punk band Green Day performed at Nationals Park in Washington DC alongside The Smashing Pumpkins.
During the performance, Armstrong held up a Trump face mask with the word “idiot” scrawled across the forehead as he sang their hit song American Idiot with modified lyrics.
“I’m not a part of the MAGA agenda,” Armstrong sang instead of the original “Redneck agenda,” videos of the show reveal.
The band has a long history of speaking out against the former president, using this changed lyric in multiple shows since 2016.
During a televised performance on this year’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve, the band used the lyrics replacing “Redneck” with “MAGA.”
Their first major performance to feature these lyrics happened at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas in 2019.
At the 2016 American Music Awards, the band also chanted “No Trump, no KKK, no fascist USA” during their performance of the song, Bang Bang.
The band also released an anti-Trump anthem titled, Troubled Times, off their album Revolution Radio.
The music video for Troubled Times even features a crazed Trump in a MAGA hat on fire among other anti-Trump imagery and photos of civil rights leaders and activists.
But this most recent stunt on stage came three weeks after the assassination attempt of the former president at a rally in Pennsylvania – leading to calls to boycott the band.
“Time to Boycott Green Day,” said popular right-wing influencer DC Draino on X.
“Utter trash,” his post continued.
Many of the comments similarly called for a boycott, with some even suggesting the band is inciting violence due to the close proximity of Trump’s attempted assassination earlier in the month.
“Inciting violence against a former President,” read one comment.
“He’s responsible now.”
TRUMP’S ASSASSINATION ATTEMPT
On July 13, Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, opened fire at former president Donald Trump as he spoke at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania.
Crooks, who was on a rooftop about 430 feet away, only grazed Trump’s ear in a barrage of gunfire that killed one rally-goer and injured two others.
Within 26 seconds of the first shot, a Secret Service counter-sniper stationed on another nearby roof returned fire and immediately killed Crooks, according to law enforcement officials.
Police believe that Crooks, who was a registered Republican and reportedly a former Trump supporter, physically went to the site of the rally the day before and early that morning.
Authorities believe that Crooks stayed for about an hour, and then left before using a drone later that day to scope out the scene and return later that day to carry out his plan.

4:35pm: David McCormick rallied the crowd.
5:10pm: Thomas Matthew Crooks, 20, later identified as the shooter, was first identified as a person of interest.
5:30pm: Crooks was spotted with a rangefinder.
5:30pm: Crowds were still waiting for Trump.
5:52pm: Crooks was spotted on the roof by Secret Service.
6:02pm: Trump takes the stage.
6:09pm: Two sniper teams posted on buildings to the north and south behind the rally stage repositioned and were locked on Crooks.
6:12pm: Gunshots were fired toward the stage as Trump delivered remarks.
6:12pm: Secret Service returns fire, confirming the shooter is dead.
6:12pm: Trump was ushered off stage by Secret Service agents.
6:42pm: Secret Service confirmed Trump is safe.
7:24pm: The shooter and one rally attendee are confirmed dead by law enforcement officials.
8:42pm: Trump confirms he was shot in the ear, sharing a statement on Truth Social.
8:49pm: The Secret Service confirms the shooter and a rally attendee are dead. Two others remain critically injured.
Minutes before attempting to assassinate the former president, Crooks was spotted walking near a rally entrance where attendees were being scanned for weapons, before fading into the crowd, according to law enforcement sources.
Crooks then reportedly scaled an air conditioning unit reachable from the ground and climbed up to the top of the building located just outside the Secret Service’s security perimeter.
Witnesses who saw Crooks climb onto the roof warned police about his presence with some even recording his crawl across the unit.
One officer even climbed up onto the roof, but immediately descended the ladder back down after Crooks pointed his rifle at him seconds before opening fire at the former president.
Once on the rooftop and lying in a prone position, Crooks was approached by police with guns drawn ultimately firing at least six shots toward the former president before the Secret Service returned fire, killing him.
Authorities still are looking for Crooks’ motive, as neighbors reported describing Crooks as a staunch conservative, and saw pro-Trump signs in the family’s yard as recently as several months ago, according to local ABC affiliate WTAE-TV.
Searches of Crooks’ phone and computer have not turned up any significant information about his motives or anything else for that matter, according to authorities.
Crooks’ most suspicious searches only seem to include both Trump and Biden’s names, information on the Democratic National Convention, and looking for facts about members of the British royal family.
In fact, authorities said Crooks’ final internet searches before his death were reportedly for pornography, according to The Daily Beast.
Since the shooting, Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle has resigned after receiving widespread backlash from both political parties over the federal agency’s failure to protect the former President and secure the rally’s perimeter.
The U.S. Sun has reached out to Green Day for comment.
