The United States has been working closely with Mexico to address security concerns related to cartel activity and border safety. Officials have emphasized the need for Mexico to take further action in combating these threats, highlighting that the issue extends beyond U.S. borders and poses a direct threat to the Mexican government as well. Mexico has deployed 14,000 National Guard members to its border, and the U.S. has provided intelligence on key cartel leaders, which has led to targeted operations. However, authorities stress that this effort must be ongoing rather than a short-term initiative.

The Trump administration has been actively pushing Mexico to confront cartels and gangs operating along the southern border. As part of this strategy, President Trump has designated eight Latin American cartels as terrorist organizations. Tom Homan, the U.S. Border Czar, reinforced this stance, stating that cartels should be treated as terrorist organizations, with severe consequences for anyone associated with them, including those who provide funding or logistical support. He emphasized that the full weight of the U.S. government must be applied in dismantling these criminal organizations, particularly groups such as the Jalisco and Sinaloa cartels.
Homan also addressed the dangers faced by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents due to activists doxxing federal officers by publicly sharing their personal information, including phone numbers. He revealed that he currently has state troopers stationed around his residence due to ongoing death threats. According to him, ICE agents are law enforcement officers committed to ensuring public safety, and they should not be subjected to such threats or harassment. He expressed hope that legal action would be taken against those responsible for endangering federal officers.
Additionally, the discussion turned to the impact of immigration policies on local communities. A resident from the South Bronx shared concerns about feeling unsafe due to the influx of migrants, stating that she had never felt fear in her neighborhood before but was now terrified. This sentiment contrasts with some media portrayals that downplay the security concerns of local residents. Homan noted that while politicians and activists often push back against ICE operations, many community members express gratitude for their presence and efforts to remove criminal elements.
He reaffirmed the Trump administration’s commitment to enforcing immigration laws and prioritizing the safety of American communities. Despite resistance from sanctuary cities and political opposition, he stated that ICE would continue its operations and, if necessary, increase manpower to address illegal immigration and crime. Homan emphasized that the goal is to remove all criminal illegal aliens, including gang members, and to ensure the safety of the nation.
Public opinion on immigration enforcement appears to be shifting, with increasing support for stricter policies and mass deportations. As concerns over border security and crime grow, the administration remains steadfast in its mission to uphold immigration laws and protect U.S. citizens. The efforts to combat criminal organizations and illegal immigration are expected to continue as a key priority for the government.
