JEOPARDY! fans have called out the game show for forgetting a significant detail in a tribute post to late host Alex Trebek.

Over the weekend, the quiz show shared an Instagram video of a cookie with the Jeopardy! legend’s face on it.

It showed a sugar cookie being decorated with icing, mimicking Alex‘s distinct facial features and white hair.

The dessert came from a New York City bakery famously known for its intricate cookie art.

However, not everyone was impressed by the artwork, as some fans complained that the decorator left off Alex’s signature mustache.

“Now do one with the mustache,” one person wrote in the comments.

“Where is the stache?” wondered another.

While the longtime Jeopardy! host didn’t sport a mustache during the later years of his career; devoted fans remember his thick, black mustache in earlier episodes.

Alex was the first host of the popular game show in 1984 – a gig he held for 37 seasons.

He was forced to step back from the podium in October 2020 as his health drastically declined during his battle with Stage 5 pancreatic cancer.

Alex taped his final episode of Jeopardy! on October 29, 2020 – 10 days before his death.

The episode aired on NBC on January 8, 2021, concluding with a 90-second tribute to the beloved host.

Abiding by Alex’s wishes, Jeopardy! continued after his death with a string of guest hosts.

“Alex believed in the importance of Jeopardy! and always said that he wanted the show to go on after him,” the show’s executive producer, Mike Richards, said in a statement at the time.

Mike ended up succeeding Alex as host in 2021, but he was fired after just five episodes due to accusations of workplace discrimination and callous remarks he made on a 2013 podcast.

In March 2024, Mike spoke out about his firing in an interview with People, calling it a “firestorm that engulfed my family.”

Art Fleming – 1964 to 1975, he was the original host of the daytime version of Jeopardy! on NBC.

Alex Trebek – 1984 to 2020, the late, great Alex hosted Jeopardy!’s modern iteration for 36 years until his death from pancreatic cancer.

Guest hosts – 2020 to 2021, Jeopardy! tested out a series of guest hosts for week or two-week stints, including Anderson Cooper, LaVar Burton, and Aaron Rodgers.

Mike Richards – 2021, he was named host for one week before resigning amid controversy. He was the show’s executive producer at the time.

Mayim Bialik – 2021 to 2023, when Mike was announced as the show’s new host, Mayim was chosen to host tournaments and primetime specials.

Mayim and Ken Jennings – 2022 to 2023, 74-time champion Ken (the longest-winning contestant ever) joined Mayim as a guest host and they split hosting duties.

Ken Jennings – 2023 to present. Last December, Mayim announced on Instagram that she would “no longer” host Jeopardy! after a lengthy hiatus, having stood with the writer’s strike, and Ken was named sole host.

Ken now helms all editions of Jeopardy! including Celebrity Jeopardy!, the nightly show, and other primetime specials like Masters.

Actress Mayim Bialik and former Jeopardy! champ Ken Jennings took over as the game show as dual hosts.

Online critics debated for months over who was better for the job, and Ken appeared to be the favorable option.

In December 2023, Mayim got the boot, but she initially made fans believe she had left on her own accord.

She had stepped back from her hosting duties in May 2023 when the Writers Guild of America strike began, but she never returned.

In July 2024, insiders exclusively told The U.S. Sun that Mayim parted ways from the show because she wanted to be the “solo host,” but Jeopardy!’s production company, Sony Pictures Television, “wasn’t willing to give that to her.”

Ken then became the sole host of Jeopardy! including its spin-offs, Jeopardy! Masters or Celebrity Jeopardy!
