Former Bachelor star Shawn Lowe recently found himself in a frightening situation when his dog, Moose, attacked him in a dramatic incident captured by police body cam footage. The attack, which took place after the family’s smoke alarm went off, left Shawn with severe injuries to both arms. He explained that Moose, a rescue dog they had recently adopted, had been triggered by the alarm and became aggressive.

In the body cam footage, Shawn’s parents are seen helping him hold Moose down after the attack. Shawn had already received 20 stitches the previous night for injuries caused by Moose’s biting. He called animal control to have the dog picked up, but when they had not arrived by the next day, Moose attacked again. Shawn, struggling to control the dog, described how his arm had been torn open during the confrontation. Despite his efforts, he feared for his life, saying, “I’m fighting for my life here.”

During the chaotic moments, Shawn managed to wrestle Moose to the ground while holding onto his collar, but the dog’s aggression persisted. “We need a tranquilizer,” Shawn pleaded to the 911 operator. The operator reassured him, and Shawn, a 220-pound man, held the dog for about 10 minutes until police arrived. The officers faced their own challenges in trying to gain control over Moose.

Once the officers arrived, they used a catch pole to restrain Moose, and after a tense standoff, the dog was tasered but remained uninjured. Shawn, however, required medical attention for his injuries, which included deep bites on both arms. His wife, Catherine, who he proposed to during his time on The Bachelor in 2013, witnessed the entire ordeal and rushed to the scene to help.

Despite the violent nature of the attack, Shawn expressed sympathy for Moose’s situation. The night before, he had called 911 in an effort to find a safe place for the dog, explaining that Moose had been through significant trauma before they adopted him. “Our family dog, that we adopted a couple of months ago, turned and attacked me,” Shawn said, reflecting on the difficulty of deciding what to do with the dog. “It was a big ordeal just trying to figure out where to place him now.”

Moose was eventually taken to an animal hospital and rehomed. Reports suggest that the dog had been subjected to considerable trauma prior to being adopted, which might have contributed to his aggressive behavior. A source told Entertainment Tonight that Shawn was still shaken by the events but was grateful that his family was safe.

Catherine, visibly distressed, shared a sweet photo of their family with their 5-year-old daughter, revealing scars from the incident. She reflected on the dangerous situation, admitting that they were deeply upset by the attack. Despite the horrifying attack, the family is still processing what happened and is grateful that no one else was hurt.
