A Boston Celtics Festivus for the rest of us to get some gripes off of our chests
The Boston Celtics are seemingly stuck at around .500 midway through yet another season that was supposed to be the campaign that saw them finally ascend to contender status while a large part of the roster (and for that matter, the NBA) is in the league’s health and safety protocol after testing positive for COVID-19 despite the majority of the team being vaccinated. Between all this, the political zoo appearing on our televisions and cell phones on a daily basis, and a host of other disappointing to downright frightening things going on in the world at the moment, there is no limit to the things fans of the Celtics could — and should — be complaining about. To that end, on this week’s episode of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast, hosts Justin Quinn, Alex Goldberg, and Cameron Tabatabaie host a Festivus-inspired airing of the grievances for all things Boston Celtics, NBA, and beyond. We try to keep it mostly light in a bit of a dark patch in the NBA schedule with all the COVID-related news currently gripping the league (and put most of the pandemic related talk further towards the end), and touch on the team’s recent play and signing of former No. 10 pick Joe Johnson to keep things balanced. So, be sure to check out the clip embedded above to hear all there is to gripe about in the Celtics media sphere on up with your three favorite NBA curmudgeons. Midrange theories, Celtics slumps, and Jaylen’s value with Seth Partnow
When it comes to using analytics to get a fresh perspective on things, there are few in the game with a better angle on that than The Athletic’s Seth Partnow. Former Head of Basketball Research for the Milwaukee Bucks and recent author of the new book “The Midrange Theory: Basketball’s Evolution in the Age of Analytics” (pre-order it here!), Partnow joined your usual hosts Alex Goldberg, Cameron Tabatabaie, and Justin Quinn on the most recent edition of the CLNS Media podcast “Celtics Lab” to talk about his new book and all things analytics. Get ready to have some of your assumptions about this team, its coaching, and even some especially contentious recently rumored trade proposals challenged on one of our favorite pods in recent memory. If you are a regular listener to the Celtics Lab, it’s clear you love the team, basketball, and quite possibly both, and we have met very few people who enjoy talking hoops more than Partnow. Check out the clip embedded above to hear everything from what we expected out of Robert Williams III in the new Celtics offense to why some triple-doubles (we see you, Magic Johnson) are more meaningful than others. Previewing Boston’s 2024 NBA trade deadline possibilities with Jack Simone
The NBA’s 2024 trade deadline now perhaps better measured in hours than in days. And knowing what the range of possibilities that exists for the Boston Celtics to choose from to make moves to bolster their roster for a push to the 2024 NBA Finals is a good place to start. What can the Celtics do to get better? Which moves are more likely, and which make little sense? Who are the likely targets, and which ones might surprise us? More importantly, what is off the table for Boston’s front office, and which trade targets should the Celtics be pursuing? To get our bearings for what should be an impactful if comparatively quiet trade deadline for Boston, the hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast linked up with “How Bout Them Celtics!” cohost Jack Simone to talk ourselves through his recent trade deadline primer for Celtics Blog. We also touch on the news, recent games, Marcus Smart’s return, Joel Embiid’s knee, and a ton more, so be sure to tune in. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

“I was here tonight for you get better soon we miss you #loveyou #meatisdelicious #celtics,” wrote another.

“All the best in your recovery legend. Looking forward to the repeat this year,” wrote another.

“Get well soon Bro! Your teammates got you. LETS GO!” wrote one fan.

“Get well soon KP 🦄 🙏,” said a user.

“All the best man 🙏🙏,” wrote another.

Porzingis missed the first month of the Celtics’ championship defense recovering from offseason surgery on his ankle. Various injuries have kept him out of action for half the season thus far, but he’s averaged 18.9 points, 6.8 rebounds and 1.9 assists per game in 32 contests.

In the 2023 offseason, Boston acquired Kristaps Porzingis from the Washington Wizards in a three-team trade with the Memphis Grizzlies. The move was considered a giant risk since Boston was giving away fan favorite and defensive stalwart Marcus Smart, but Porzingis would go on to play a pivotal role in helping Boston win its first NBA title in 16 years.

The Celtics can rest their players accordingly over the final weeks of the regular season, as they’re pretty much locked in as the No. 2 seed in the Eastern Conference.

The Cleveland Cavaliers entered Monday with an eight-game lead on Boston for the No. 1 seed in the East, but the defending champions had a 5.5 game lead on the New York Knicks for the second seed.
