Assessing the West ahead of the NBA’s 2023-24 season with Jack Simone
With the offseason just weeks away from training camp, most of the teams around the NBA have pretty close to the version of their roster that will be taking the floor on opening night under contract, even if they may need to make a few more moves around the margin to get to that point. That makes league analysts and fans of the Boston Celtics and the rest of the league able to get a pretty good idea about just how likely each team in the Association is to winning it all, tearing it down, or living in the spaces between those two poles. So with that in mind, the hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast linked up with Spurs Wire editor Jack Simone to project the order of the NBA’s Western Conference for the looming 2023-24 season. With sportsbooks like Fan Duel predicting Boston as among the most likely ball clubs to come out of the East, there’s a good chance the teams we picked as contenders could face the Celtics in their first return to the NBA Finals since 2022 — and even if they don’t, it’s good to know a bit about the teams Boston will face in their push to get back there. Boston wins Game 4 vs. Miami, but lose Kristaps Porzingis; what happens next?
The Boston Celtics won Game 4 of their 2024 NBA Eastern Conference first round series with the Miami Heat to take a commanding 3-1 lead at Kaseya Center on Monday night, but the win came at a cost. The Celtics lost star big man Kristaps Porzingis to what is being described as a calf strain, and could miss substantial time as a result. How does Porzingis’ injury impact the rest of the series vs. the Heat? Assuming Boston advances (and we should), how do the team’s rotations change in terms of minutes distribution of frontcourt minutes change — and who gets them? The hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast took a deep dive into Boston’s Game 4 results and what it means for the team moving forward. On the court, James is closing in on $500 million in career earnings. However, it’s his business ventures and investments that have propelled him into billionaire status—an achievement he once called his greatest accomplishment.

Companies Owned By LeBron James

LeBron James’ investment journey started in 2011 when he acquired a 2% stake in Liverpool Football Club, which is owned by Fenway Sports Group (FSG). A decade later, he and his longtime business partner, Maverick Carter, made history as the first Black owners within FSG after securing a 1% share in the company.

In 2023, their involvement grew further when they increased their stake in FSG as part of a lifetime marketing deal. Today, FSG’s portfolio includes the Boston Red Sox, Liverpool Football Club, and the Pittsburgh Penguins.

2. SpringHill Company

The SpringHill Company was formed through the merger of SpringHill Entertainment, Uninterrupted, and The Robot Co. While Maverick Carter serves as CEO, LeBron James’ influence has attracted major partners like Warner Bros., Nike, Fenway Sports Group, and RedBird.

SpringHill also collaborates with British media company Fulwell 73, co-owned by James Corden, contributing to projects like The Kardashians and the Grammys. Though profitability has been a challenge since its launch in 2020, these strategic partnerships aim to secure long-term success.

3. Ladder

James continues to hold a minority stake in the Ladder app after selling his majority share to Openfit in 2020. He co-founded the company in 2018 with Cindy Crawford, Arnold Schwarzenegger, and Lindsey Vonn. Despite reducing his ownership, James remains involved in promotional efforts for the brand.

4. Blaze Pizza

James became an investor in Blaze Pizza in 2012. By 2017, his stake had grown to an estimated $30 million. He currently owns franchise locations in Chicago and Miami, using his massive social media presence to promote the brand.

Beyond Blaze Pizza, James has invested in real estate and secured endorsement deals with Nike, DraftKings, PepsiCo, and Taco Bell, among others. In 2014, he reportedly earned around $30 million when Apple acquired Beats by Dre, having held a minority stake in exchange for his endorsement.
