Dave Portnoy has revealed that he’s been offered a big U.S. Government job following Donald Trump’s return to office.

Portnoy founded Barstool Sports in 2000 and has seen it grow into one of the most notable sports brands in American media following its start as a gambling newsletter.

The 47-year-old regained full control of the company after buying it back from PENN Gaming in August 2023. But whatever the job is, it would have required him to give it up.

Speaking on his ‘Davey Day Trader’ show this week, Portnoy disclosed having been offered a job working under Secretary Howard Lutnick in the U.S. Commerce Department.

He didn’t reveal exactly what it was but said he turned it down because he didn’t want to leave Barstool, something he implied was unfair because Elon Musk is heading the DOGE committee while still fully committed to Tesla and SpaceX.

“How do you run Tesla when you’re working on DOGE 24-7?” he asked. “You kind of want your CEO with the eye on the ball, right?”

Boston wins Game 4 vs. Miami, but lose Kristaps Porzingis; what happens next?
The Boston Celtics won Game 4 of their 2024 NBA Eastern Conference first round series with the Miami Heat to take a commanding 3-1 lead at Kaseya Center on Monday night, but the win came at a cost. The Celtics lost star big man Kristaps Porzingis to what is being described as a calf strain, and could miss substantial time as a result. How does Porzingis’ injury impact the rest of the series vs. the Heat? Assuming Boston advances (and we should), how do the team’s rotations change in terms of minutes distribution of frontcourt minutes change — and who gets them? The hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast took a deep dive into Boston’s Game 4 results and what it means for the team moving forward. We also take a quick look around the league at some other developments that may impact Boston as well, focusing on what we want to see in Game 5. Boston beats the odds again, turns garbage to gold to force Game 7
Once, a wise man told the fans of the Boston Celtics that anything was possible. And in Game 6 of the 2023 Eastern Conference finals as the Celtics could have let their title aspirations and their season slip through their fingers as Jimmy Butler made free throws to put the Miami Heat up 1 with just 3 seconds left, Boston’s Derrick White remembered that fact. A miraculous tip-in won the game for the Celtics and put Boston in a position to be the first team in the history of the NBA to overcome a 0-3 series deficit on their way to punching a ticket to face the Denver Nuggets in the 2023 NBA Finals and another chance at winning Banner 18. They will do it on Monday at home, playing for history on their home court of TD Garden. The hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast sat down postgame to talk over a memory that will live on in Celtics lore for the ages. As well as what they expect to see in the best thing the NBA playoffs has to offer — a Game 7. The Celtics Lab podcast is brought to you by Fan Duel and Better Help. Learn more about your ad choices. CLAB 30: Un-[expletive]ing the Celtics’ vibe with the Riffsman
Before the Boston Celtics got back in the win column against the Denver Nuggets Tuesday night, it’s probably safe to say emotions surrounding the Celtics internally and among their fans were at a nadir for the season. With a .500 record and embarrassing losses driven in part by players the Celtics could have drafted, rumbles of ire and fingers of blame abounded. But a voice of reason emerged from the wilderness to help us at the Celtics Lab podcast in the form of the so-called “godfather of Weird Celtics Twitter” The Riffsman. If you know him, this is an episode you don’t want to miss as he guides back from the darkside in a most prescient manner. And if you don’t, stick around for the in-depth conversation on how to un-[expletive] the Celtics vibes, Bill Russell’s humanitarianism, and who might click with Boston’s big traded player exception. Join hosts Alex Goldberg and Cam Tabatabaie for an unbuttoned Lab, only made better by the Riffsman calling it like it is. It appears Portnoy has rubbed shoulders with the right people. He made his position on Trump clear back in 2015, claiming he did not care that the President was unserious, racist, or sexist,

“I hope he stays in the race and I hope he wins. Why? Because I love the fact that he is making other politicians squirm,” he wrote.

Things could continue to get interesting for the Barstool brand owner, just as long as he doesn’t have to give up control again.
