15-Year-Old Maddox Batson Made His Opry Debut and Stunned the Crowd
There’s something about watching a teenager step into the circle at the Grand Ole Opry that makes even the most seasoned country fans stop and smile. On March 26, 2025, that moment belonged to Maddox Batson, a 15-year-old from Cross Plains, Tennessee, whose Opry debut was equal parts poised and personal.
Introduced by Opry host Charlie Mattos, Batson walked out to thunderous applause—many in the crowd donning green as a nod to his song “Girl In Green.” Smiling wide, he took his place on the storied stage, marking a major milestone in a journey that’s only just begun.
A Performance Years in the Making
Batson performed two tracks from his debut EP, First Dance, released just days before his Opry appearance. First came “I Don’t Like You Anymore,” a hooky breakup anthem co-written with hitmakers Ashley Gorley, Hunter Phelps, and David Garcia. As of late March, the song had already surpassed 850,000 Spotify streams, with even more traction coming from its viral popularity on YouTube and TikTok.
His second song, “It Was You,” showcased a different side of the young artist. This slower, more reflective ballad offered a glimpse into his emotional depth. Backed by a live band and a stage lit with subtle greens and blues, Batson delivered both songs with surprising composure for his age.
Batson’s personal tie to the Opry stage made the night even more special. His family had purchased a seat in memory of his grandfather, who passed away in December 2024. “My dad’s dad… I feel like he’d like to be here,” Batson told American Songwriter ahead of the performance. That subtle but powerful tribute grounded the show in something real—family, memory, and the kind of personal legacy country music has always cherished.
From Viral Videos to Opry Spotlight
Batson’s rise hasn’t followed the traditional label-scouted, industry-groomed path. Instead, it began on TikTok, where covers of songs like “Blue Ain’t Your Color” drew millions of views in 2023. By early 2024, his debut single “Tears In The River” had racked up over 12 million global streams, helping him secure a growing fanbase and a reputation as a promising new voice in country.
His EP First Dance features seven songs co-written with some of Nashville’s most respected writers. Tracks like “Girl In Green” and “X’s” have resonated with listeners for their relatable lyrics and Batson’s ability to straddle classic country themes with a modern touch.
He’s also made it clear that while he’s only 15, he’s not interested in trying to sound older than he is. “I can’t write about trucks and beer yet,” he said in an interview with MusicRow. “But I can write about what it feels like to grow up and fall for someone, or get your heart broken.”
Batson is now gearing up for a sold-out headlining tour and is set to open for Lainey Wilson later this year—a major opportunity that could bring him even closer to mainstream country fans.
