While known as the King of Rock and Roll, Elvis Presley spent a portion of his life outside of the music industry. Back in the late 1950s, hundreds of fans watched as Elvis was drafted into the United States Army. Throughout 1958, Elvis completed basic training and used his two weeks’ leave to record several songs in Nashville. Although never losing his love for music, the icon found himself in West Germany. Wanting to welcome him home after serving in the military, Frank Sinatra decided to perform with Elvis during a 1960s television special for ABC.

Known as the Welcome Home Elvis special, Sinatra brought Elvis to the stage for his first TV appearance in three years. And setting the tone for the special, Elvis and Sinatra offered mesmerizing performances of “Love Me Tender” and “Witchcraft.” With each singer performing the other’s song, viewers at home and those in attendance received a special treat from two legendary performers.

Although happening over six decades ago, the performance thankfully made its way online to the delight of fans. Looking at what fans had to say about the special, comments read, “This is great footage of Frank and Elvis. We work the same way, only in different areas. Of course Elvis wasn’t going to wiggle his hips after Frank made that statement. I love how Elvis moved his shoulders in this scene. He sounded great and was so beautiful.” Another person added, “Wow two very different voices blending…Both born entertainers….both talented to the hilt….Elvis did well in such company….great piece of music history…cheers for this.”

Elvis Presley Struggled With Infidelity And Addiction

While loving his time on stage, Elvis also nurtured a marriage to Priscilla Presley in 1967. Although the marriage only lasted a few years, the couple welcomed Lisa Marie Presley to the world.

Once speaking about her marriage to Elvis, Priscilla explained how difficult it was to have a relationship with the King of Rock and Roll. “It was hard, you know, to get used to all the guys, not just Elvis but all the guys, they were like this, and I love them all, but it was a man’s world, and I was really the only woman.”

For Priscilla, the breaking point came when she read through fan letters to Elivs and learned of his infidelity. “I decided, gosh, he’s living another life and and I just couldn’t take it. Every time he’d go to Vegas or even Palm Springs, it was, you know, it was it was difficult.”

Although struggling with love and addiction, Elvis produced a career that continues to entertain and withstand the test of time.
