A plethora of country musicians have served time in the military, but not a single one of them has ever reenlisted after they hit it big. However, that is no longer true, as Craig Morgan recently reenlisted in the U.S. military after serving as a staff sergeant and fire support specialist in the 101st and 82nd Airborne Divisions for 17 years.

Morgan’s first stint with the military began in 1980 and ended in 1997. Following his career in the army, Morgan went on to become a country music singer and is known for his songs, “Redneck Yacht Club,” “Almost Home,” and “International Harvester.” In his country music heyday, Morgan also scored one No. 1 hit with his 2004 single, “That’s What I Love About Sunday.”

Though Morgan has seemingly opened a new chapter of his life by revisiting an older one. He spoke about his reenlistment into the army with Fox News, and transparently divulged why exactly he decided to retrace his footsteps.

Why Craig Morgan Decided to Reenlist

While speaking on Fox News, Craig Morgan stated, “Recruiting was worse than it had ever been in our nation” and “I felt I could bring something to the table to help with that.” “Secondly, I served 17 and a half years, and never got a letter that said thank you for your service. I wanted that retirement letter so bad,” continued Morgan.

Regarding his first comments, Fox News anchors asked Morgan about the U.S. Military’s current recruiting numbers and if they’ve seen an influx in enlistees. To that question, Morgan responded, “There is a sense of renewed pride in our nation” and “That trickles down to those young men and women.”

Craig Morgan’s current position in the United States military is that of a Warrant Officer 1 in the U.S. Army. Furthermore, Morgan also serves as the Assistant Bandmaster for the 313th Army Band at Redstone Arsenal in Alabama. Aside from his military service, Morgan is currently on tour with Blake Shelton on Shelton’s 2025 Friends & Heroes Tour. Other musicians joining Craig and Shelton are Deana Carter, Trace Adkins, and Emily Ann Roberts.
