Adam Levine and Blake Shelton fight to the death in attempt to sway 16-year-old Emily Ann Roberts to join their team following her stunning rendition of Lee Ann Womacks‘ “I Hope You Dance.”
Within seconds, the young singer earned the immediate chair-turn from Levine, with Shelton holding out until the the last minute. The young singer’s rendition of Womack’s 2000 country hit is highly reminiscent of the original, flawlessly landing even the most difficult notes the song requires.
“Country music is something that I absolutely do love with all my heart,” shares the young singer after her whirlwind performance. “Blake would be a good connection into that…” she trails off before Levine jumps in to protest.
Levine attempts to make his case for her, saying that should she join his team over Shelton’s he could always ask the country singer for help should he need it.
“Why would you go with a coach who’s then going to turn around and ask me how to coach you?” Shelton interjects.
The two coaches then go back and forth before Emily Ann inevitably chooses Shelton as her coach. The young singer advanced to the finals of Season 9 before being edged out by that season’s champion, Jordan Smith.
