Scotty McCreery is mourning the loss of his good friend, Yameer Greene.

Greene, 26, was tragically killed in a car accident on Tuesday morning (July 21), when his vehicle was struck head-on by an oncoming car at a high rate of speed. According to WRAL-TV, Greene and the two passengers in the other vehicle died.


 

After learning of his friend’s untimely passing, McCreery took to social media to share a message to Yameer Greene.

“So many great memories with you that I will always hold on to. Everyone who knew you, loved you,” he wrote. “Rest easy. I cant wait to see you again one day.”

He later honored Greene with a stunning musical tribute.

“For my buddy Yameer. One of the kindest and brightest souls I’ve ever met,” McCreery wrote. “Everyone who knew him loved him. Love you and miss you man. Rest easy.”

The singer/songwriter went on to share a touching cover of Vince Gill’s “Go Rest High on That Mountain.”

McCreery appeared to be overcome with emotion during his acoustic performance of the beloved track and at one point, it looked like he was holding back tears.

The former American Idol champ and Greene both graduated from Garner High School in Garner, North Carolina.
