NBA fans are offering prayers and messages of support for San Antonio Spurs legendary head coach Gregg Popovich following a concerning update about his health.

The 76-year-old Gregg Popovich, in his 29th season as the organization’s head coach, has been away from the Spurs since Nov. 2 after suffering a stroke, with assistant Mitch Johnson serving as the interim HC in his absence.

On Saturday evening, ESPN’s Shams Charania reported that Popovich is unlikely to return to the sidelines this season. Additionally, Charania added that Coach Pop’s future as a coach “is uncertain.”

Basketball fans came together to offer Gregg Popovich their support following the concerning update from Charania:

“Prayers up for the best coach of all time 🙏,” one fan said.

“Damn prayers man 🙏 hope you get better Pop,” another wrote.

“From a most promising position in years to this unfortunate situation within a week. Hope Pop makes a full recovery and enjoys a lot of healthy years, regardless of bball. 🙏,” said a user.

“If this is it thank you pop,” another commented.

“That’s shocking news. Wishing Pop a full recovery,” wrote a fan.

“Best wishes to Pop,” said another.

In 2023, Popovich signed a five-year contract extension that keeps him with the organization through 2027-28, when he’ll be 79 years old.

The Spurs are 24-30 and sit three games behind the Sacramento Kings for the final play-in berth in the Western Conference. Earlier this week, it was announced that the Spurs will be without second-year superstar Victor Wembanyama for the rest of the season with a blood slot in his shoulder.

Now, the Spurs must find a way to get by without their Hall of Fame head coach and franchise superstar.

If this ends up being the end of Popovich’s coaching career, then what a remarkable run it has been. He’s the all-time coaching wins leader with 1,412 (all with the Spurs) and has led the Spurs to five NBA championships during his illustrious run.
