The Brooklyn Nets are languishing at the bottom of the table in the Eastern Conference. With just 20 wins to their name, they have suffered as many as 35 crushing defeats. And while there has been several talks about their team composition needs to be addressed, a surprising trend has emerged. It has been found that most players could not perform well when they were with the Brooklyn Nets! As shocking as it might sound, it is true.

In a recent X post from ‘Brooklyn Nets Supporter’, the team was termed as ‘cursed.’ Let’s explore the possible reasons for the claim. Speaking of well-known athletes who have played for the Nets, the names of James Harden, Kyrie Irving, and Kevin Durant come to mind immediately.

Irving has played 143 games donning the jersey of Brooklyn Nets. Showing a moderate form, he averaged 27.1 points per game with 4.8 rebounds and 5.8 assists. However, before playing for the Nets, Irving already has an NBA ring. Donning the jersey of Cleveland Cavaliers, Irving went on to win the NBA championship back in 2016.

And while one might think that the incident with Irving was a one-off occurrence, the same has been the case with two-time NBA champion Kevin Durant and superstar James Harden. Durant scored 29 points per game in 129 games for the Nets, his best average for any team. However, he failed to win the accolades with the Nets. On the other hand, Harden, who averaged almost 30 points per game for the Rockets in 621 games, scored 23.4 points, 10.5 assists and 8.2 rebounds in 80 games for the Nets.

After joining the Oklahoma City Thunder, Durant clinched an MVP award owing to his incredible scoring form. He kept up with the good work when he joined the Golden State Warriors back in 2016. Soon after, Durant got his hands on back-to-back NBA titles in 2017 and 2018. Not only that but he was also adjudged as the Finals MVP on both occasions.

Lastly, James Harden helped Oklahoma City reach the NBA finals back in 2012. While they lost to the Miami Heat, Harden established himself as a superstar of the game. After his Thunder stint, Harden became a superstar after spending nine seasons with the Rockets. Well, if this was not enough, the Brooklyn Nets made some faux pax with their draft picks, too!

Jayson Tatum, Damian Lillard, And Jaylen Brown Found Their Footing Outside Of Brooklyn Nets

Both Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown could have donned the Brooklyn Nets’ jersey. Back in 2013, then General Manager of the Nets, Billy King opted to sign Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce. In return, they agreed to give up Gerald Wallace and a host of their draft picks, which included Tatum and Brown.

Soon after, both Brown and Tatum had been making significant strides in the NBA. What’s more? Since 2020, both of them have emerged as 20-point scorers, much to the frustration of the Nets’ fans. After ignoring Damian Lillard in the 2012 NBA Draft, the Nets made a major blunder by choosing veteran duos over future champions Tatum and Brown.

Thus, with some significant debate in favor of the ‘cursed’ narrative, Brooklyn Nets will have to find a way to succeed as they go forward this NBA season.
