Aqra bil- Malti

Love emanates from Maestro André Rieu’s orchestra. Right before his concert in Maastricht, TVMnews met two members of the orchestra who have been married for two years.

André Rieu’s son, Pierre, speaks about his father and how he was surprised by the warm welcome he received in Malta.

Tiny Aerts is an 88 year old music teacher. Aerts was the person who instilled in Maestro André Rieu the love for music. At five years old, André Rieu met his teacher, and was captivated by the violin. Right before his concert in Maastricht, Aerts surprised Rieu with a bouquet of flowers.

Love also flowered within the Johann Strauss Orchestra. Violinist Frank Steijns mezzo soprano Madieke Schoots met at the orchestra, and have been married for two years.

I was long time in the orchestra, for more than 25 years, and then Madieke came to the orchestra and then magic happened. We are married now for two years and I think without Andrei this could not have happened.

Pierre Rieu, Maestro André’s younger son, describes his father as a family man who wants the best for everyone.

He is a very sweet man and a loving father. He wants only the best for everyone. The first place is family, but he always says he has two families: one at home and one here, and I belong to both families.

Pierre Rieu

André Rieu is a father of two and grandfather of five. His grandchildren mean the world to him.

The moment our kids were born, my brother has three children, we felt down the ladder from being the son to the father of his grandchildren. But we love it, of course.

Pierre describes his father as a simple and humble man who is happy with what he has managed to achieve through hard work. He said that he was also surprised by the welcome his father received when he visited Malta.

Because I was not able (to go) when he did his first visit to Malta, unfortunately, but he sent me videos with the team that surrounded him and I saw how warm he was welcomed with so many people waving and applauding for him and that is not very common, so that is not everywhere the same, so I am extremely looking forward to coming to Malta and having these concerts there.
