Hoda Kotb has returned to Today. After being absent from the NBC morning show since mid-February due to “a family health matter,” Kotb was back on the air on Monday. She revealed that her three-year old daughter, Hope, was briefly hospitalized but has since been discharged and is recovering at home.

“My youngest, Hope, was in the ICU for a few days and in the hospital for a little more than a week,” Kotb told her cohost Savannah Guthrie, who was also briefly absent from Today after testing positive for COVID last week. “I’m so grateful she’s home. I was waiting for that day to come.”

NBC anchor Craig Melvin gave an update to Today show fans on Kotb’s brief hiatus last week. “As for Hoda—we know a lot of you have been wondering how she is doing. We can tell you that Hoda’s okay,” he said alongside fellow anchor Sheinelle Jones and veteran weatherman Al Roker. “She’s got a family health matter that she’s been dealing with.”

While she was absent, Kotb remained active on social media, posting inspirational quotes on her Instagram page, like “Choose hope,” and “Sometimes miracles are just people with good hearts.”

Kotb, who’s also mom to six-year-old daughter Haley Joy, said she’s “watching [Hope] closely” after the hospitalization. “When your child is ill, the amount of gratitude for people who helped you out,” an emotional Kotb told Guthrie. “I’m grateful for the doctors at Weill Cornell, who were amazing, and the nurses. And I’m grateful to my family, and I’m grateful to friends like you who were there every single day.”

“I want to say thank you for that. I love you. I love you,” Hoda Kotb continued, clasping Guthrie’s hand. “I love you too. You have a lot of friends out there,” responded Guthrie.
