Why Hoda Kotb Left 'Today' Early - ParadeHoda Kotb is a working mom, but her most important job is parenting!

The Today co-host has made that clear on several occasions in the past, and this morning, Wednesday, Sept. 6, she prioritized her children once again as she left her spot on the morning show earlier than usual to escort her daughters to their first day of school.

The broadcaster kicked off the 7 AM ET hour of the news series alongside co-anchor, Savannah Guthrie, heading out about 20 minutes later to complete her drop-off duties.

“Hoda, you’re on the run — it’s the first day of school,” Guthrie, 51, announced after the two finished teasing a few stories to come. “I’m taking my kids to school!” Kotb replied, seemingly getting the OK from producers with, “Okay, can I leave right now?”

“Yes give them a hug for us,” Guthrie said, as Kotb hopped up from her chair and told fellow Today stars Craig Melvin, who then stepped in for her in her absence, and Al Roker, “Byeee! See ya later!”

“Go get ‘em, girls!” Guthrie cheered during the send-off.

Kotb is expected to return before her 10 AM ET spot on Today With Hoda and Jenna, which she co-hosts with Jenna Bush Hager.

The young girls, Hope Catherine, 4, and Haley Joy, 6, resumed the academic year today, as New York City schools officially bid summer adieu and jump back into regularly-scheduled programming this week.

On Instagram, the longtime broadcast journalist marked the occasion with a bright and colorful graphic featuring an encouraging Dr. Seuss quote: “You’re off to great places, today is your day! Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way!” The notable rhyme is from the beloved children author’s 1990 book, Oh, the Places You’ll Go!

“Happy first day of school! Xo,” Kotb wished in the caption of the social media upload.

Just yesterday, the mom-of-two also shared her kids’ fresh haircuts as they prepped for the big return.
