NETFLIX’s American Primeval takes viewers to the edge of the country’s historic growing frontier in a dramatic TV show.

The mini series is a fiery depiction of the clashes between the government, Mormon Church, and Native Americans but who survives in the end?

What is American Primeval?

The 2025 Netflix mini series follows unrest in the expanding West of America in the 1800s.

The historical drama is set during the turbulent years of the 1857 Utah War.

Several characters – some based on real people – faced a huge crisis before they decide to travel West across the country’s frontier.

It starts with Sara Rowell and her son Devin as they set off from Fort Bridger, Wyoming, to California.

They join a wagon train which is later attacked by Mormon militia dressed as natives.

The pair manage to flee but the show continues to follow other characters affected by the massacre.

This drama is set in the historic post of Fort Bridger, set up by mountaineer Jim Bridger.

This was the start of the show’s power struggle between Mormon settlers, the federal government, and Natives.

Who dies in the American Primeval ending?

The sixth and final episode is a dramatic and tragic one.

Trapper and bounty hunter Virgil Cutter is killed after Isaac holds him down while Sara stabs him in the chest.

Unbeknown to the pair, Cutter’s younger brother Lucas is alive and witnesses the incident.

After seeking revenge and attempting to attack Sara, Lucas is shot dead by Isaac.

Despite saving the woman he loves, Isaac is also fatally shot allowing her to make it to safety.

Warrior and leader of the Wolf Clan, Red Feather, is also shot and killed, by Mormon militia leader James Wolsey.

The warrior however survived long enough to strike an axe through Wolsey’s head.

Tragically, Jacob Pratt is behind the death of his own wife.

Having been kidnapped by Red Feather’s Shoshone tribe, Jacob had believed that his wife had already been killed.

However as Mormons battle against the Shoshone, Abish is among the warriors, dressed as one of them,

Jacob mistakenly shoots her in the chest and after she dies in his arms he takes his own life.

Who survives in the American Primeval ending?

Sara and her son Devin finally get their happy ending when the pair ride off to California at the end of the episode.

Two Moons survives even after a terrifying wolf attack, after Devin shoots the animal with a gun.

Brigham Young, Jim Bridger, and Wild Bill Hickman also make it out alive.

Who stars in American Primeval?

The series, which follows several characters and story lines, has a whole host of famous actors in its cast.

Dane DeHaan, know for playing Green Goblin, stars as Jacob Pratt with Saura Lightfoot-Leon as his wife Abish Pratt.

Canadian actor Kim Coates plays religious leader Brigham Young.

Shea Whigham, know for portraying Eli in Boardwalk Empire, stars as Jim Bridger in this show.

Betty Gilpin plays Sara Rowell and Preston Mota is her son Devin Rowell.

Canadian actor Taylor Kitsch takes on the role of Issac Reed.

Jai Courtney, who has appeared in several major Hollywood films such as Suicide Squad and Divergent, stars as Virgil Cutter.
