During the documentary, Kevin, 23, revealed that doctors informed him that because Wendy was drinking so much, the alcohol had started to affect “her headspace and her brain.”

“I think they said it was alcohol-induced dementia,” he told the interviewer.

Immediately after the reveal, the Lifetime doc cut to a black screen with text that read, “This is the first time that anyone mentioned a dementia diagnosis during production of the documentary.”

The U.S. Sun spoke with several insiders close to Wendy, 59, about the once vibrant TV star’s fall from the spotlight and the battle she is in for her life.

Wendy was first presented with the devastating alcohol-related brain damage diagnosis in 2019 while she was in a rehab in Delray Beach, Florida, sources claimed.

One insider explained that there was a brain scan done as part of Wendy’s rehab stay.

Afterward, a neurologist sat down with the star, her son, Kevin, and her then-husband, Kevin Hunter Sr., 51.

“The doctor explained to them that Wendy was suffering from alcohol-related brain damage. They told her that her alcohol abuse had done permanent damage to the layers in her brain,” the source said.

“She was warned then and there that if she continued to drink, the damage would only get worse.”

They detailed in that meeting what would eventually happen if she continued on the path she was on, according to the insider.

It was then that doctors foretold of the eventual decline of Wendy’s cognitive abilities, which have become apparent to those who have come in contact with the star in recent years.

“They told her that if she kept drinking she would continue to grow more forgetful, that she wouldn’t remember people’s names, and eventually, she could forget who people even were,” the insider said.

After The U.S. Sun reached out to Wendy’s representatives for a response to the claims, they publically announced that the star had been diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia.

“As Wendy’s fans are aware, in the past she has been open with the public about her medical struggles with Graves’ Disease and Lymphedema as well as other significant challenges related to her health,” her team stated.

“The decision to share this news was difficult and made after careful consideration, not only to advocate for understanding and compassion for Wendy, but to raise awareness about aphasia and frontotemporal dementia and support the thousands of others facing similar circumstances.

“Receiving a diagnosis has enabled Wendy to receive the medical care she requires.”

HEADING WEST

In the new docu-series episode, Wendy and her publicist, Shawn Zanotti, fled to Los Angeles, California to have a meeting with NBC in regards to the former daytime TV host returning to television.

However, neither of them told Wendy’s manager, Will, or her guardian, Sabrina, of their getaway.

While in the car driving to see her star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Wendy got confused as to where she was.

While discussing the NBC meeting with the producers, but wanted her potential talk show to take place in New York and not Los Angeles.

“They have to understand, it can’t be here in Miami. It’s gotta be in New York, New York,” the TV personality said.

The producer then asked her where she was currently.

She took a moment to think about it, then said California.

Next, the producer asked: “So you don’t want the show in LA?”

Wendy exclaimed, “No! I mean all due respect, but New York is much better, more important.”

AWARDS BOUND?

Later on, Shawn asked if she wanted to go to the Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, but Wendy didn’t know what they were.

“Wendy, you wanna go to the Oscars?” Shawn asked.

“What’s Oscars?” Wendy replied.

Her publicist described the glamorous award show and asked if she wanted to walk the red carpet.

“Yeah! I wanna wear this,” Wendy said, wearing a bright pink Gucci shirt.

Shawn stopped her and explained that she would need to wear something more appropriate for the lavish event.

Soon after visiting her star, they went out to eat where Wendy had two drinks.
