VIRGIN River fans were shocked to discover an ‘unrecognisable’ star was in a hit horror film.

The romantic drama series, follows Mel Monroe (Alexandra Breckenridge), who relocates to the village after a personal tragedy and falls for Jack Sheridan (Martin Henderson), a bar owner and former Marine.A laughing couple, the man in a military dress uniform.

Alongside forming friendships with the locals and assisting them through their issues and problems, Mel supports Jack in dealing with his own post-military trauma.

An eagle-eyed viewer took to Reddit when they recognised a significant member of Jack’s Marine squad appearing in The Monkey, Osgood Perkins’ successful horror film based on a Stephen King short story.

“Just watched the movie The Monkey and looked up one of the actors, Rohan Campbell, whose face you don’t really see much (bc of having bangs, not a spoiler),

“And it says he played “Lonergan” in 4 episodes of VR, but I have literally no memory of this character. Who is this?” they asked.

In the film, Rohan plays Ricky, a young man with a grudge against Hal Shelburn (Theo James) and sporting a dark goth look, complete with long, black hair obscuring much of his face.

Rohan’s character in the Netflix show doesn’t get much screen time so it is so clever to have spotted this link!

One fan responded: “Lonergan was a member of Jack’s squad or platoon in the Marines.”

“[Spoilers] he was killed, which has had lingering effects on Jack [Spoilers]

“They hired an actor for the flashbacks to Jack’s time in war.”

While Rohan may not be a central character in Virgin River, his role has been central to protagonist Jack’s narrative.

Through flashbacks, viewers learned that Rohan died in Jack’s arms, an event that has left him with deep-seated trauma.

In one scene, Jack’s fellow Marine Zeke (Garfield Wilson) mentions Rohan during a conversation around a campfire, prompting Jack to abruptly leave to grab another beer, clearly still affected by the memory.

Fortunately, Jack has Mel by his side, who supports him as he confronts his traumatic past as a Marine.

His mental health has seen significant improvement over the recent seasons, and he has even stopped drinking, acknowledging it was a crutch for his PTSD.

Despite this progress, Jack remains closely connected to his military friends like Preacher (Colin Lawrence), and he experiences mixed feelings about Ricky (Grayson Gurnsey) choosing to join the armed forces.

Will Rohan’s tragic demise resurface again in upcoming plots or has Jack found peace with his death?Virgin River fans must eagerly await the show’s seventh season to find out.
