TODAY host Craig Melvin has been replaced by a beloved female host.

Craig‘s replacement this morning on Today was seen sitting at the desk with Savannah Guthrie as he called in with his whereabouts.

Laura Jarrett stepped in for Craig today, with the beloved new host missing from his seat just weeks after replacing Hoda Kotb.

Savannah opened the show and said: “Laura, do you wanna help me say ‘bonjourno’ to Craig who is in Milan.

“One year from today, this is where the eyes of the world will be, Craig.”

Craig then welcomed viewers and said “bonjourno” with a huge grin.

The beloved host then explained why he was in Milan one year before the winter Olympics are due to take place.

He also spoke about how the sports event will be split across two cities for the first time ever.

“Boy, Craig Melvin has been sent to Italy already. NBC is so emotional. #Today,” said one fan in X, in awe of NBC’s love of the Olympics.

Today marked yet another day that Craig was missing from the show after taking over from Hoda Kotb just last month.

On Tuesday, Savannah opened the episode with Peter Alexander.

CRAIG IS ON ASSIGNMENT

“Nice to have you with us, Peter. Craig is on assignment in Milan,” the broadcaster revealed.

She then said: “Tomorrow on Today, he’s going to give us a first look at the 2026 Winter Olympics.

“The countdown is already underway so he’s going to show us around the beautiful host city.”

Craig previously joked last week that he would be “taking one for the team” ahead of his trip to Italy.

STEPPING INTO HODA’S SHOES

Last month, Craig stepped into Hoda’s shoes following her departure.

Hoda wrote a letter to staff in September 2024 sharing her decision to leave, with the host departing the show last week once and for all.

While hosting his first show after Hoda’s departure, Craig learned that his former co-host had a pre-recorded message for his first day.

MOVING MESSAGE

“I’m moving forward, so reach back your hand. Grab the baton, your world will expand,” the letter said as it was read aloud.

“The adventures are endless, the people so dear. Great memories await, year after year.

“Day One! You are ready surrounded by love. Your team is the kind you can only dream of.”

“Savannah, Al, and Carson are here! With partners like these, your runway is clear,” the emotional letter went on.

“From out on the plaza, to inside 30 Rock, your fans are so eager, they’re watching the clock.

“The time has arrived to rise like the sun. I am cheering for you, and a fabulous run!”
