FANS of The View are cringing over Whoopi Goldberg’s most recent interview on the talk show.
During Tuesday’s episode of The View, actor Billy Dee Williams joined the table to promote his new book What Have We Here: Portraits of a Life.
The interview began awkwardly as Whoopi introduced Billy to the audience.
Billy’s answers came a bit short and stilted as Whoopi, 68, and the rest of the crew listened to how he got his start in the movie industry.
There were several odd moments during the chat with Billy.
The awkward interview rubbed many the wrong way, including a question from Sunny Hostin.
She mentioned he was one of the first people of color to pioneer what he had done in show business.
Billy took issue with what she said by saying “everyone is a person of color” and Sunny awkwardly corrected herself.
He said he was “brown skinned” in response to Sunny calling him a Black man.
The studio was weirdly silent as Billy slowly explained himself and offered long stories on how he persevered throughout his career.
Fans weren’t particularly enamored with his interview as a whole.
They collectively proceeded to slam the interview on social media.
“That Billy Dee Williams interview on The View was…interesting. Calling himself ‘brown skinned’ as a corrective to Sunny calling him a Black man and weird dismissive comments about gender fluidity – the whole segment had a weird vibe,” one fan wrote.
“Does Billy Dee Williams not identify as Black? Wtf is going on lol,” another asked on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“They need to cut to commercial. Barbara Walters would NEVER let this train wreck of an interview w Billy Dee Williams continue. Smh. Whoopi — YOU are the moderator for crying out loud,” another added.
“WHO booked this Billy Dee Williams interview???? And WHY? What is going on???” one fan questioned.
“Billy Dee Williams had to be one of the most boring and hardest interviews. All of the hosts struggled getting something out of him. But it showed Joy to be the expert,” another fan posted.
‘NO SENSE!’
Whoopi recently butted heads with co-star Alyssa Farah Griffin during a heated debate.
They were in the middle of an argument about the disparities between baby boomers and millennials.
The morning show moderators’ argument ensued during a Hot Topics discussion about the US economy and how it affected the younger generations.
“People can’t even buy homes in this economy,” Alyssa, 34, asserted, earning a rather blunt response from the 69-year-old EGOT titleholder.
“Listen, I’m sorry [but] when I started out, I couldn’t buy a home either,” Whoopi exclaimed.
Co-host Joy Behar, 81, chimed in that she couldn’t buy a home when she was in her youth also.
Whoopi added that homeownership “wasn’t the first thing” to happen after someone enters the workforce.
“You got to go out and get a job…” she continued.
“I know you’re young,” Whoopi said as she pointed to Alyssa, “but here’s what it is. You work, and you can afford a house. And you can go and get one.
Driving her point home, the original Color Purple actress reminded the former White House employee that the proud Republican lived in New York City, where “no one could afford to live.”
Alyssa clarified that she wasn’t speaking about herself since “she works on The View,” implying that she was speaking up for the many young Americans in that situation.
GONE TO FAR
The View fans clapped back on X, which used to be Twitter, at Whoopi for blaming the youth rather than the forces hindering them.
“Omg, Whoopi is so out of touch. It’s much harder than when she growing up,” one critic tweeted.
“All of them are millionaires at the table, they are out of touch with what’s happening in the country. They are just paid Democrat operatives.”
The critic continued: “One thing about #Whoopi she will behave like she knows it all. I’m tired of her view. I think it’s time for #TheView to move on from her.”
Another slammed: “‘Young people can’t buy homes. I couldnt buy one either’ OMG WHOOPI SHUT THE F**K UP Whoopi sounds stupid and ignorant af. Alyssa the only one with some sense.”
A third fan added, “Yeah, I literally yelled at the TV. Alyssa was the only one making sense.”
A fourth complained, “lol… I don’t think Whoopi has worked, like actually worked on a movie set in like two decades or more.
“The View only takes like 4 hours to shoot and she sits down for 90% of that. They pay her millions I believe to give the youth a tongue lashing abt ‘laziness’. Mad world.”
