Kansas City, MO – March 16, 2025
Patrick Mahomes, the Kansas City Chiefs’ superstar quarterback, lit up Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City on Saturday with a heartfelt visit to kids battling leukemia. Beyond sharing laughs and autographs, the 29-year-old pledged $10,000 to each of 20 families, totaling $200,000, a gesture born from his own journey as a father of three that’s touching hearts across Chiefs Kingdom.

Mahomes, joined by wife Brittany after a weekend practice, spent hours in the hospital’s pediatric oncology ward. Armed with Chiefs jerseys, footballs, and boundless energy, he connected with young patients fighting leukemia—a disease that tests both kids and their parents. Through his “15 and the Mahomies” foundation, Mahomes committed the funds to ease medical and living costs, a lifeline for families in crisis.
“As a dad to Sterling, Bronze, and Golden, I know how tough it is when your kids are struggling,” Mahomes told reporters post-visit. “I just want these families to feel a little lighter, to know Chiefs Kingdom’s got their back.” He signed casts, played games, and listened to their stories, his empathy shining as brightly as his three Super Bowl rings.
This isn’t Mahomes’ first rodeo at Children’s Mercy. He’s donated iPads and toys in the past (Chiefs Wire, 2019) and comforted shooting victims there after the 2024 Super Bowl parade tragedy. With his youngest, Golden, born in January 2025, Mahomes said fatherhood has deepened his understanding of these parents’ battles. “Being a dad changes you,” he said, eyes misty as he hugged a 6-year-old fresh off chemo. “These families are the real MVPs.”
The $10K-per-family gift isn’t just cash—it’s a promise of support, reflecting Mahomes’ own experiences raising three kids under the NFL spotlight. “Health is everything,” he added. “I’d trade every touchdown to see these kids smile.”

Fans flooded X with praise. “Mahomes is more than a QB—he’s a hero,” one wrote. Another posted: “$10K each? That’s why he’s our GOAT.” His off-field legacy—$1.625 million for sick kids in 2023 (Marca) and a 2023 Walter Payton Man of the Year nod—keeps growing. Even after a Super Bowl LIX loss and roster shakeups (Reid, Hopkins, Thuney gone), Mahomes proves his greatness transcends football, one family at a time.
