KELLY Ripa appeared uncomfortable on an episode of Live when her ex-co-host Regis Philbin was mentioned.
The moment came after the host shaded the late star in her memoir, LiveWire.
Kelly, 53, and Mark Consuelos took their talk show to Las Vegas, Nevada, this week.
At the end of Tuesday’s episode, the hosts visited Postcard from Earth, the Darren Aronofsky project, at The Sphere.
Kelly and Mark, 52, begin the exhibit by talking to Aura the Robot.
After the Live hosts introduced themselves, Kelly asked Aura what they could expect from Postcard from Earth.
The robot told them and then Mark asked Aura what she knew about Michael Gelman.
“Michael Gelman is a well-known figure in the television industry,” Aura said.
This made Mark and Kelly laugh.
“Best recognized for his role as executive producer of the daytime talk show Live with Regis and Kathie Lee,” the robot finished.
This made Mark shout a big “OHHH!”
Meanwhile, Kelly smiled awkwardly at the camera and nodded her head.
She stuck her thumbs up to the camera as Mark said that the robot was right.
When Mark saw his wife’s reaction, he corrected the robot telling her that the talk show was now called Live with Kelly and Mark.
“Now it is known as Live with Kelly and Mark, as in the two humans standing in front of me?” Aura asked.
“Correct,” Kelly said.
The hosts then went on to explore the rest of the exhibit.
DISSING REGIS
Kelly revealed that working with Regis was “not a cakewalk” in an interview with PEOPLE.
She said that there were “good days and bad days” working with the late host.
“I don’t want to feel like I’m slamming anyone or that I’m being disrespectful. But I also want people to know it was not a cakewalk,” Kelly told the outlet.
“It took years to earn my place there and earn things that are routinely given to the men I worked with, including an office and a place to put my computer.”
Regis died at the age of 88 on July 25, 2020.
The interview coincided with Kelly’s book, Live Wire: Long-Winded Short Stories.
The book reflects on her life and more than 20 years of co-hosting Live.
Aside from Regis and Mark, Kelly also hosted with Michael Strahan and Ryan Seacrest.
HARD TO WRITE
Kelly admitted that the chapter about Regis was the “hardest one to write.”
She hosted alongside him for 10 years.
“The biggest misconception is that it all came easily,” she told PEOPLE.
“People think I just showed up one day and was handed a job and I lived happily ever after and now everything’s perfect. But it never is that way.”
At the time, the actress had been a fill-in guest host alongside Regis, before her agent called her with a full-time position.
However, the new position came with a warning.
“They want you to know who your boss is,” she said, telling the outlet that it didn’t feel good.
She also revealed that the show was against Kelly “bringing an entourage” to the set.
Kelly brought two people for hair and makeup – a move that was looked down upon by Regis.
“Uh-oh, Gelman, it’s got an entourage,” Kelly remembered him telling Michael Gelman.
“I felt horrible. He was probably trying to be funny, but at the same time it felt like a pile-on,” she said.
“I understand that probably he didn’t want a co-host, but the network wanted me to be the co-host and I didn’t think I should pass up that opportunity. I don’t think it was fair to him. But it was also not fair to me.”
Despite any disagreements, Kelly insisted she and her co-host shared several joyful memories.
“Off camera and outside of that building, it was a different thing,” Kelly told the outlet.
“The handful of times we spent together, I so enjoyed. We went to the same resort once on vacation and he came to a dinner I hosted—one of the favorite nights of my life. I never laughed so hard.”
Regis retired in 2011, much to Kelly’s dismay.
“It makes me sad but it’s not something I will ever understand. I was steadfast in my attempt at communication. You can’t make a person befriend you,” she said.
