JON Stewart has broken down in tears on air while grieving the death of his family dog Dipper.

The Daily Show host got emotional while discussing his pet whom he adopted nearly a decade ago from a no-kill shelter in New York.

Jon, 61, opened up about losing his family dog Dipper in an emotional tribute on Monday night.

“Dipper passed away yesterday,” he announced as he became choked up on camera.

“He was ready. He was tired, but I wasn’t.”

“And the family, we were all together. Thank goodness we were all with him,” he added.

Jon shared the story about how Dipper entered his life after he and his family participated in a fundraiser for the New York City animal shelter Animal Haven.

The late-night host was joined at the event by his children Maggie Rose, 18, and Nathan Thomas, 19, whom he shares with his wife Tracey Stewart.

He explained that his kids were much younger at the time – around 6 or 7, and they had baked cupcakes for the shelter.

“So as a little extra incentive, they brought out this 1-ish year-old brindle pit bull who got hit by a car in Brooklyn and lost his right leg,” he recalled, as he slammed the table with his fist

“F**k!” he cursed, as he became teary-eyed.

Jon grabbed a tissue box which he pretended to place on the desk before him, adding, “It was the perfect idea, they put the dog in my lap. And we left that day feeling really good that we’d helped this great organization.”

“And we also left with this 1-ish-year-old brindle pit bull. We called him Dipper, and in a world of good boys, he was the best,” he cried.

Jon explained that Dipper was a part of his original Daily Show “dog crew” and that when he would arrive at the show to record, the pup would patiently wait for him to finish.

“He met actors and authors and presidents and kings. And he did what the Taliban could not do, which is put a scare on Malala Yousafzai,” the TV personality added, alongside a clip of Yousafzai running away in fear when she saw and heard the animal barking backstage.

The father of two ended the show with a message to fans, saying, “But boy, my wish for you is one day you find that dog, that one dog that just is the best.”

Jon finished with a clip of his three-legged friend playing in a wintery background as he chased a snowball.

“Here’s your moment of Zen,” he told viewers, as he could be heard in the background of the clip talking to his pup.

“Dipper, who’s got the ball?”

The video closed out with Dipper fetching the snowball and bringing it back to Jon.

Fans flooded social media with words of condolences for Jon and his lost furry friend.

“I have tears streaming down my face, as I’m sure all of us dog lovers do,” one wrote.

“I am so sorry for your loss,” a second penned.

“All of us ‘Dog People’ have been there. We know the breaking of your heart. Take solice in knowing you did the best thing for him you could at the end…” a third gushed.

“I’m so sorry for this pain and loss you’re feeling. I’m crying with you. But I’m glad you found Dipper that day because you gave him a wonderful full life.

“And though we take these amazing creatures into our hearts knowing how much the end hurts, the love is so worth it,” a fourth remarked.

“Pet loss is no different than the loss of a close family member – because they are family,” a fifth claimed.

“I’m so sorry you are going through this,” another mentioned.
