Around that time, Jenna had just stepped in to host the fourth hour of Today with Hoda.
She also announced that she was expecting her third child with husband Henry Hager, 45.
The pair looked back at that moment together, which prompted Jenna to reveal a special guest for the episode.
“It took a lot of phone calls and prying, but after five years, this guest is finally making his appearance,” Hoda, 59, announced.
“Ladies and gentlemen, Hal Hager!”
Hal, 4, shyly walked on set while holding two stuffed animals.
He walked straight to mom Jenna, who picked him up and brought him back to sit with her at her seat.
“Hi, honey bunny!” Hoda said gently to the boy.
Jenna asked if Hal wanted to say something to Hoda, but he clearly wasn’t interested.
Instead, he covered his ears and buried his face in Jenna’s chest.
“Remember when I played our show for you and you cried?” she asked the boy.
He didn’t, and didn’t seem willing to say much when Jenna tried to coax more out of him.
Eventually, when asked if he liked the animated series Bluey or Today better, he responded with “I like both.”
‘I’M SCARED’
“You know what?” Hoda asked the shy child.
“We’ve been waiting for you for five years to come on. You know why?”
“Why?” Hal asked.
“Because you were in your mommy’s tummy, and now you’re 5 years old almost,” Hoda replied.
Hal will turn 5 on August 2.
Jenna tried to get Hal to tell Hoda “happy anniversary” since they were celebrating five years of their show.
He didn’t seem to want to do that either, and instead whispered something surprising.
“I’m scared,” he said timidly, clutching his stuffed animal.
“You’re amazing. And you’ve got an amazing mom,” Hoda told him.
Jenna reassured Hal, and made sure he knew he would still get a donut for his appearance on the show.
