Here’s something that’ll make you feel warm and fuzzy: Hoda Kotb has shared her first family photograph with new daughter Hope Catherine, following her recent adoption announcement. During an emotional on-air segment on the Today Show last Tuesday, Kotb revealed that she and her partner Joel Schiffman had adopted a second baby girl.

“This is us xo” Kotb wrote in a caption to the sweet image, which sounds like a reference to NBC’s beloved adoption-centric family drama starring Mandy Moore, Chrissy Metz, Sterling K. Brown, and Susan Kelechi-Watson.

Kotb adopted her now 2-year-old daughter Haley Joy in 2017. During her adoption announcement last week, she revealed that Haley instantly embraced her new role as a big sister. “She literally walked up to her and looked at her and goes, ‘Hope’,” Kotb said of the first moment Haley saw Hope. ” It was, like, one of those moments… She was literally marching around saying, ‘I’m a big sister.’”

“I can’t imagine any of this happening,” Kotb said last week. “We hoped and prayed about this.” There’s also a particularly powerful story behind Kotb’s choice of name: “Catherine” is a tribute to her best friend, Karen Swensen, whose 15-year-old daughter is called Catherine, and whose husband passed away from cancer last year. “Her [Karen’s] husband passed a little while ago,” Kotb explained. “And Catherine is so super strong. And it just so happens that she was here this weekend with Karen.”Kotb is now accustomed to making big announcements live on air. Back in 2017, she revealed that she had adopted Haley in a memorable and moving Today segment.

“I do have something to tell you,” Kotb said at the time, as a picture of her with the newborn Haley appeared onscreen, “but instead of telling you, I’m going to show you something. That little girl, Haley Joy, is my daughter. I adopted her. She is the love of my life.”
