“You’re on your own ride. You’re on your own train, and your blessings are coming when they come.”
Hoda Kotb is celebrating her 60th birthday by sharing her refreshing perspective on aging.
In a new episode of “Making Space with Hoda Kotb,” the longtime television personality opened up about approaching the milestone with hope and gratitude in a “love letter to her personal journey.”
Kotb, who ditched her normal celebrity interview format in favor of a special solo show, admitted to finding inspiration in her famous peers as she watched them turn 60 and continue to thrive.
“When I learned that Brooke Shields is turning 60 and Mariska Hargitay and Sandra Bullock and all of these awesome women, I feel like this is a club that I am honored to be a part of,” the Today co-host said in the podcast episode. “Because what do I (see) when I look at these women? I see vibrancy. I see creativity. I see rebirth. I see new life. I see all these beautiful things. And I realize that every decade, no matter what you are, is a chance for repotting, rebirth, resurgence. Like all these things can happen. You get to choose.”
Kotb stressed that that message can apply to all the big birthdays, including 30, 40, 50, and so on.
“Some people, when they turn 30, are like, ‘Oh my God, I’m 30. It’s over. All my friends are married.’ It’s like, be real, man,” she said. “You’re on your own ride. You’re on your own train, and your blessings are coming when they come. And your blessings might come in your 20s. They might come in your 30s. They might come in your 40s. Mine started—started—in my 50s. That’s when the best ones came.”
Kotb has always been open about her later-in-life journey to motherhood. The West Virginia native became a mother to two daughters—Haley and Hope—via adoption in 2017 and 2019, respectively.
Kotb opened up about the stigma around becoming a mother in your 50s in a 2023 episode of Today With Hoda & Jenna.
“I am so happy and fulfilled with my decision that I don’t feel any ounce of shame because my dad died when I was in college,” she shared. “You get your parent for as long as you get your parent and they lay a foundation that you cannot shake.”
Kotb officially turned 60 on August 9, 2024.
Happy birthday, Hoda! We know your 60s are going to be your best decade yet!
