Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs suffered a brutal 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in the Super Bowl.
After a blowout loss, the Chiefs’ season concluded with a 17-3 record. They defeated the Buffalo Bills and Houston Texans in the postseason after entering the playoffs as the No. 1 seed in the AFC with a 15-2 record.
Despite the success leading up to the Super Bowl, Kansas City struggled mightily in the final game. Three-time Super Bowl champion and Hall of Fame quarterback Steve Young recently spoke on the Chiefs’ struggles, pointing to Mahomes’ fallout as Kansas City’s downfall.
“(Mahomes is) the guy that has an answer,” Young said, per the Dan Patrick Show. “He’s matured to a point where he doesn’t have to look far downfield. It felt like he was looking for something great or amazing or super. You know, like the Superman stuff of his early days when he really just dropped it off, get it out blitz coverage, I mean.”
Mahomes finished the Super Bowl loss to the Eagles with three touchdowns and 257 yards while completing 17-of-22 pass attempts.
He also had two interceptions and gave up a fumble during the game. One of his early interceptions resulted in a pick-six for the Eagles while the other put Philadelphia in position to score in their own red zone.

Despite the struggles from Mahomes, he’s proven to be a true leader for Kansas City, taking the franchise to seven consecutive AFC Championship Game appearances and five Super Bowl appearances while winning three Super Bowl titles during his eight-year NFL career.
