• Chiefs Prediction Would Be Unfortunate News for Patrick Mahomes

The Kansas City Chiefs will attempt to get back into championship form after falling short of a third straight Lombardi Trophy earlier this month.

Kansas City finished the season with a 17-3 record, including the playoffs, defeating the Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills in the postseason.

They eventually fell at the hands of the Philadelphia Eagles, 40-22, in Super Bowl LIX.

After a blowout loss to the Eagles, the Chiefs are headed into a hectic free agency market that has a few starters in position to potentially leave the organization.

Some of the biggest names who will potentially hit the open market for Kansas City are linebacker Nick Bolton, offensive lineman Trey Smith and defensive end Charles Omenihu.

Before free agency begins March 12, Alex Kay at Bleacher Report revealed his predictions for some of the biggest players set to hit the open market.

Kay predicts Chiefs guard Trey Smith to leave Kansas City and potentially sign a five-year, $105 million contract with the Chicago Bears, deeming the NFC North franchise the “best fit.” Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes

Smith has been with the Chiefs since being drafted in the sixth round out of Tennessee in 2021. He earned Pro Bowl honors in 2024 and has started in 67 of 68 career games in Kansas City.

The loss of Smith would put head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes in a difficult situation. He’s established himself as one of the most reliable offensive linemen in the league and a player like Mahomes, who often scrambles behind the line of scrimmage, will need that security.

Smith and company didn’t have a great showing in the Super Bowl, giving up six sacks to the Eagles, but they were consistent on that front for a majority of the season.

Mahomes finished the Super Bowl loss to the Eagles with 257 passing yards, three touchdowns, two interceptions and one lost fumble. His three turnovers led to 17 Eagles points.
