Robert De Niro is known for his iconic roles across decades of film, but when asked about his youngest daughter Gia visiting him on the set of his new movie, the legendary actor gave an unexpected response.

De Niro was asked in an interview with E! News posted on Wednesday, March 19, alongside his Alto Knights costar Debra Messing, if his 1-year-old daughter Gia visited him on set of the movie. The Meet the Fockers star hesitated before Messing turned to him and said, “She wasn’t born yet.” De Niro then chimed in with a laugh, “No she wasn’t born yet… She came on the Zero Day set a few times. I shot that last winter,” De Niro revealed.

Despite having a toddler at home, De Niro still makes it work when it comes to balancing family life with his demanding career. “You make it work, somehow,” he said. “I sometimes have her on the set with my girlfriend and I’m lucky I have a camper. It’s a nice set up.”

De Niro has been with his girlfriend Tiffany Chen since some time in 2021 after meeting on the set of The Intern in 2015. The duo welcomed baby Gia two years later on April 4, 2023.

In addition to Gia, De Niro is father to six other children from past relationships. He shares daughter Drena, 53, and son Raphael, 48, with his first wife, Diahnne Abbott, whom he married in 1976 and divorced in 1988. In 1995, De Niro welcomed twin sons, Julian and Aaron, 29, with his former longtime girlfriend, actress Toukie Smith. He also shares son Elliot, 27, and daughter Helen Grace, 13, with his second wife, Grace Hightower, whom he married in 1997 and separated from in 2018.
