This spring is treating Snow White fans very well. With Disney’s Snow White live-action movie out in theaters, a different film based on the beloved fairy tale is heading to streaming.

In 2012, Chris Hemsworth made his debut in the fantasy action-adventure movie Snow White and the Huntsman, taking a different twist on the beloved fairy tale. After some controversy with director Rupert Sanders and lead actress Kristen Stewart, the sequel put Hemsworth in the center of the story2016’s The Huntsman: Winter’s War is now heading to Peacock on Apr. 1 after being critically panned and becoming a major commercial flop.

Another acclaimed psychological thriller from David Fincher is coming to Hulu.

The 2012 film was a retelling of the original tale, written by the Brothers Grimm. In this version, Snow White grows up imprisoned by her evil stepmother, Queen Ravenna, and after she escapes in the forest, the Queen enlists Eric the Huntsman’s help to capture her. The first movie was a box office hit, grossing $401 million worldwide against a budget of $170 million. Although it received poor reviews (a “rotten” 48% from the critics and a “spilled popcorn” 52% on the Popcornmeter), the movie received two nominations at the Academy Awards for Best Visual Effects and Best Costume Design.

As it’s usual for successful films, Universal Pictures greenlit a sequel. Director Rupert Sanders, who had his directorial debut with the 2012 fantasy film, was in talks to return. However, the sequel was put on a long break after the scandal involving Sanders cheating on his wife with lead actress Stewart. The Twilight actress was also dropped from the sequel, which turned into a spin-off following Chris Hemsworth’s character.

Before the success of Dune, Denis Villeneuve made another must watch sci-fi movie, that will be streaming on Hulu next month.

The spin-off, which served both as a sequel and prequel to Snow White and the Huntsman, spent several years in development and premiered in 2016, titled The Huntsman: Winter’s War. The upcoming move to Hulu will also be frustrating, as the first installment is not available on the platform.

The Huntsman: Winter’s War Was a Major Disappointment

The sequel hired Cedric Nicolas-Troyan to take over, with Nick Frost returning as Dwarf Nion, Sam Claflin as King William, and Charlize Theron as Ravenna. Emily Blunt joined the cast as Queen Freya, and Jessica Chastain as Sara, Eric’s wife.

Although the spin-off had a smaller budget of $115 million, it didn’t make enough to reach a profit. It ended its theatrical run with only $165.1 million worldwide, becoming a major commercial flop (via The Numbers). The film’s reception didn’t help, either. Even though the first installment had poor reviews, the sequel had even poorer scores. Although the movie received praise for its effects and performances, many believed a sequel was unnecessary. The Huntsman: Winter’s War has an abysmal score of 20% from the critics and only 45% from the audience, both lower than the first entry.

The Huntsman: Winter’s War will be available on Hulu on Apr. 1.
