VIDEO: Former NFL Punter Arrested After Causing A Major Scene At “MAGA” City Council Meeting In California

Chris Kluwe being arrested.
Former Minnesota Vikings punter Chris Kluwe was arrested on Tuesday for protesting at a city council meeting in Huntington Beach, California after vowing to perform “civil disobedience.”

Per Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk, Chris Kluwe attended the meeting to protest the city council’s decision to put a plaque out with the words “Magic,” “Alluring,” “Galvanizing,” and “Adventurous” (MAGA) at the city library.

Of course, “MAGA” is the abbreviation for President Donald Trump’s “Make America Great Again” slogan. Smith noted that the seven members of Huntington Beach city council are Republicans.

In a video that has gone viral, Chris Kluwe spoke to city council and teed off on the MAGA movement in a scathing rant. Kluwe claimed that “MAGA Stands For” issues such as violating transgender rights, racism, censorship, book bans and firing military veterans.

At the end of the video, Kluwe promises to begin “peaceful civil disobedience” before officers move quickly to arrest him. The entire video can be seen below:

Kluwe was later released after four hours in police custody. It’s unclear at this time if he faces any charges.

The 43-year-old entered the NFL as an undrafted free agent out of UCLA in 2005. He initially signed with the Seattle Seahawks but won the Vikings’ punter job in 2005, a position he’d hold through the 2012 season.

Chris Kluwe Claims Vikings Released Him Because Of His Beliefs

Kluwe was released by the Vikings after the 2013 NFL Draft, and he subsequently claimed that it was because the coaching staff wasn’t happy with his public support for same-sex marriage.

Among his claims, Kluwe stated that then-Vikings head coach Leslie Frazier and special teams coordinator Mike Priefer confronted him over voicing his support of same-sex marriage. Priefer was actually briefly suspended by the Vikings in 2014 for making homophobic comments.
