Why Is Wolves Star Anthony Edwards On The Verge Of Suspension? Everything You Need To Know

Anthony Edwards has been one of the biggest stars for the Minnesota Timberwolves. In fact, Edwards leads the NBA in several scoring categories owing to his incredible basketball ability. Unfortunately for him and his team, the NBA icon has also been leading another chart, which he might not be too proud of. After the Wolves’ recent matchup against the Oklahoma City Thunder, the number of Edwards’ technical fouls rose to 14!
This is also the most technical foul accumulated by an NBA athlete this season. It all happened when Edwards had contact on a drive with the ball and took to the ground. The referee called for a technical, after which the Timberwolves’ star vented out his frustration and clapped in the face of the official.
With 14 technical fouls, Edwards might soon be headed toward a suspension. As per the rules, if he accumulates 16 techs, Edwards will be fined $5000 and slapped with a one-game suspension. And that’s not all. The rule also states that every two technical fouls from there on will result in Edwards getting banned for a match.
Can Anthony Edwards Avert The Impending Suspension Threat?
Considering the high-octane nature of NBA games, it might be difficult for Anthony Edwards to avoid getting called twice in the future, especially when the tempo is expected to rise even further as the season heads into the final lap.
At the moment, the Wolves are stranded at 7th in the West. With 31-27 on the win-loss sheet, the Timberwolves would need Edwards’ services dearly. Speaking of his excessive show of frustration, Edwards has pointed out the disparity in refereeing. “It’s hard to with the calls that Shai gets. It’s hard to shut them down. You can’t touch him any time of the game. It’s super hard to beat,” said Edwards.
