JJ Redick won’t accept any excuses for the loss against the Brooklyn Nets. He has made it clear and with full force, the head coach knows his team “gotta do the hard stuff.”

During his post-game comments regarding the Los Angeles Lakers’ 111-108 loss to the Nets, JJ Redick expressed his frustration with the team’s performance. While refusing to accept injuries as a valid excuse, he was nowhere near satisfied with the team’s playing style.

“I just think it was an overall mentality tonight to take shortcuts. We just wanted to take shortcuts. They scored 20 points on us gambling. We ball-watched all night, just shortcuts. If you want to be a good team and win in the NBA, you gotta do the hard stuff. We couldn’t even pass to each other or enter our offense… Don’t know what we’re doing… We just gotta be better,” Redick said.

However, he also emphasized the need for better communication and teamwork, criticizing the team’s tendency to take shortcuts during the game. He noted that the Lakers allowed the Nets to score 20 points by gambling on defense, and he reiterated that the team needs to do the hard work to be successful in the NBA.

Despite the poor overall performance, Redick acknowledged that the Lakers began to show improvement in the second half. He highlighted that while Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic struggled with their shooting, they managed to facilitate opportunities for their teammates, combining for 22 assists.

What’s true, false, or too soon to tell about early-season Boston Celtics trends with Chris Forsberg
With a total of about 15 games played by most teams in the NBA at this point in the 2022-23 season, we have enough data to be able to say some things about the league, the Boston Celtics, and their players. What we are seeing on the court may not be who they are at the end of the season, but we can at least make some educated guesses. Which weird starts from teams are real? Is Boston’s offense the real deal? Can the Celtics defend like they did last season? Will Joe Mazzulla’s performance earn him a non-interim status upgrade this season? Could Marcus Smart repeat as Defensive Player of the Year, and could Jayson Tatum really win this year’s Most Valuable Player award? The hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast teamed up with NBC Sports Boston’s Chris Forsberg to try and figure out what’s real, what’s fake, and what’s too soon to tell about the trends we-re seeing early this season. Join your usual hosts Alex Goldberg, Cameron Tabatabaie, and Justin Quinn as the foursome dives into what we are seeing in the early going of this season. Why Boston is probably not making big moves at the deadline with Yossi Gozlan
With the Boston Celtics rolling and their path to hanging Banner 18 looking more possible than it has in many years, you can’t fault fans of the storied ball club for hoping for a reunion with former Boston big men Daniel Theis or Kelly Olynyk. Or failing that, team president Brad Stevens getting a deal done for rumored target Isaiah Stewart to fortify the team’s frontcourt. But even fairly modest trades like these are probably not in the cards for the Celtics this season, who can’t follow through with an offer that makes sense given the exigencies of the NBA’s new collective bargaining agreement or the team’s current structure. But the team will almost certainly make at least a few lesser moves to get better ahead of the NBA’s 2024 trade deadline in Early February, so the hosts of CLNS Media’s “Celtics Lab” podcast linked up with Cap Sheets’ Yossi Gozlan to try to project what it is Boston actually will end up doing. We also get into why those fun but unrealistic deals bringing back Celtics alumni or Beef Stew are unlikely or impossible, and get caught up on the last Boston news of 2023. A deep dive into the deep rotation’s Stay Ready Crew with Noa Dalzell
The Boston Celtics have by most accounts the best top six players in the entire NBA to match their league-best regular season record. So, it can be easy to forget about the rest of the team. The so-called “Stay Ready Crew” mostly does just that — keep themselves in the right frame of mind and state of health in case their number is called. And those numbers do get called, with players like Oshae Brissett and Lamar Stevens bringing energy and matchup-dependent options that have sparked wins for Boston, while the sharpshooting duo of Payton Pritchard and Sam Hauser wreak havoc on opposing defenses. And if it were not for the likes of Luke Kornet and Neemias Queta defying expectations as reserve big men, you can be sure there would be less wins to the Celtics’ name this season. Which players matter most to the team’s title aspirations? Which might be on the move ahead of the 2024 NBA trade deadline? What talent does Boston have in the pipeline in Maine? And who will see the floor in the postseason? To answer all of these key questions not quite getting the attention they deserve, the hosts of the CLNS Media “Celtics Lab” podcast linked up with Celtics Blog’s Noa Dalzell. The self-proclaimed Boston bench beat reporter who has a bead on a certain crew that stays ready, join us in a deep dive into the Celtics’ reserves. JJ Redick Impressed With Dalton Knecht’s Improved Performance

While he went all against the team’s antics for the game against Brooklyn, JJ Redick is clearly impressed with rookie Dalton Knecht’s growth. After a challenging start to the season, with some ups and downs typical for a first-year player, Knecht has begun to find his rhythm.

“I think he has had what I would describe as a typical rookie year, which is you have some highs and some lows. You have some neutrals. I think his toughness and fight have improved throughout the year. I think getting him back and sort of the emotional and mental processing of that has made him actually a better and stronger player,” Redick said before the game.

Even in the team’s loss to the Nets, where he logged a season-high 41 minutes and scored 19 points, his performance stood out. Redick has noted that Knecht’s toughness and fight on the court have notably improved, and he will have a long NBA career if he keeps it going.

Redick also emphasized how Knecht’s emotional and mental processing has made him a stronger player. The challenges he faced, particularly after a failed trade with the Charlotte Hornets, seemed to have given him a renewed sense of purpose.

With LeBron James sidelined due to a groin injury, Knecht has stepped into the spotlight at a crucial moment for the Lakers. Redick believes that Knecht’s recent performances are all that the team needs to keep their future aspirations high.
