Standing in line at Disney World is an endurance test in itself. Add in oppressive heat, high humidity, and three overtired children, and you’re already in survival mode. But what happens when a new, more visceral challenge presents itself, an unmistakable scent of human waste wafting through the air?

That’s the predicament some unlucky guests faced in the queue for Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind at EPCOT. After hours of anticipation, the finish line was in sight, with just 20 minutes to go. But with a stench signaling an unfortunate bodily mishap, the ultimate question arose: how long is too long to stand in line when someone has, quite literally, soiled the experience?

Parents face a tough choice as their kids, oblivious to the smell and reasoning, remain eager for the long-awaited ride. “You’re so close,” one might rationalize, clutching a margarita-induced headache while suppressing the urge to gag. But at what cost? The gamble is whether the scent will dissipate or intensify. In most cases, the collective will of the crowd prevails- grit your teeth and push forward.

Boston gets to work teambuilding with Gallinari deal, Brogdon trade with Kory Waldron
The Boston Celtics were, by most accounts, not going to make much if any moves until the weekend got here. But whether that was a smoke screen or whether a happy accident set the Celtics team building wheels into motion, the team that represented the NBA’s Eastern Conference in the 2022 NBA Finals just got quite a bit better. It started with the team landing long-coveted veteran wing Danilo Gallinari, and went into hyperdrive with the trade for Indiana Pacers point guard Malcolm Brogdon, the Celtics sending out a top-12 protected first-round pick, center Daniel Theis, wing Aaron Nesmith, and three rarely-played deep rotation players. However, the logic of those waiting solo is more difficult to comprehend. If you’re child-free and still committed to the queue post-contamination, it begs the question: how much do you love Guardians of the Galaxy? With a Disney vacation already requiring patience and stamina, is this the final line you’re willing to cross- both figuratively and literally?

Theme park etiquette and personal standards intersect in moments like this. While Disney’s sanitation team likely mobilized, some odors don’t respect authority. And for those who refused to abandon ship? Well, they’ve proven that dreams, and perhaps stomachs, can withstand even the worst conditions.
