Thunder’s Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Makes His Feelings Known On Why He Dropped His Agent Amid Looming Contract Extension

There’s nothing wrong with making a few more bucks with smart moves. And if you’re Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, loading off an agenting partner will free up some double-digit million dollars.
The Oklahoma City Thunder superstar recently got everyone shocked with his bold career move for parting ways with his agent. So what things stand for Shai? He will be representing himself in all on-court matters. This move comes on the heels of his third All-Star appearance and a standout season where the Thunder are nothing short of a contender in the Western Conference.
After leading OKC to a convincing 130-107 victory over the Utah Jazz, Gilgeous-Alexander addressed the media regarding this significant career shift. Though there was nothing to hide, the star point guard came clean on his stance.
“Just felt like it was the best decision for my career going forward,” Gilgeous-Alexander said when asked about the sole reason behind sacking his agent. [Mark-03:38]
The timing is interesting, as Gilgeous-Alexander is set to sign a lucrative supermax contract this summer. And the situation requires minimal negotiation, so why not take matters into his own hands. By representing himself, he can avoid agent fees and maintain full control over the process.
Although he will represent himself in on-court dealings, he is not completely without support. For off-court matters like marketing and endorsements, Simon G. from I Love Management will continue to handle those aspects of his career. It will also ensure that Gilgeous-Alexander can focus on his performance while still receiving professional guidance for promotional activities.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Leads Thunder In Win Over Jazz
While Shai Gilgeous-Alexander has taken matters to his full control, he’s not letting it impact his on-court performance. During the Thunder’s impressive 130-107 victory over the Utah Jazz, Shai led the team throughout the game.
He played a pivotal role in the Thunder’s offensive strategy and led the team in scoring with 21 points but also in assists with eight dimes. In addition to his scoring and playmaking, Gilgeous-Alexander contributed defensively with three blocks against a struggling Jazz.
The Thunder’s effective shooting, finishing with 46 field goals out of 97 attempts for a solid 47.4% shooting percentage, all thanks to Shai’s talents. With this win, the Thunder improved to 44-9 for the season, and they are averaging 118.6 points per game with Shai on the floor.
