REPORT: Patrick Beverley Facing Lawsuit From Two Female Fans Over Ball-Throwing Incident During Last Year’s Bucks Playoff Game

It has to happen as it is happening. Patrick Beverley is facing a lawsuit filed by two Indiana fans following last year’s incident during an NBA playoff game. In the lawsuit, the plaintiffs detail how they experienced mental anguish and humiliation after Beverley threw a basketball toward them.
The ugly incident took place when Jessica Simmons and Katie Lanciotti were sitting behind the Bucks’ bench late in the game. Beverley found himself frustrated with his average performance during the Bucks 120-98 loss to the Pacers on May 2. There seemed to be some verbal exchange between the fans and Pet Bev that led to further development. Beverley threw the ball towards the fans with full force, not once but twice.
Cameras caught Beverley throwing the ball at Lanciotti, striking her in the head and breaking her necklace. He also hit Simmons in the chest and face with a subsequent throw. The plaintiffs assert that despite being targets of Beverley’s actions, they were the ones asked to leave the game. And it only added to their distress.
The lawsuit, which was recently filed in Marion County Superior Court, names Beverley alongside the Milwaukee Bucks organization and former assistant coach Josh Oppenheimer as defendants. The plaintiffs are seeking compensation for both lost wages and medical expenses. In response to the incident, the NBA suspended Beverley for four games. However, he has yet to serve this suspension due to his recent signing with Hapoel Tel Aviv BC in the Euroleague.

Beverley, who has played in Philadelphia and understands the intensity of its sports fanbase, shared his thoughts on the situation. He empathized with George’s decision to take a break and acknowledged the pressures of the season can weigh heavily on an athlete.
“I played in Philly. It’s a basketball, a sports city. And if the team isn’t doing well, no matter where you at, you at a restaurant, they gonna stop you…Obviously, he’s (PG) in Philly, probably hasn’t seen sunshine in a long time,” Beverley said.
His disappointing two-point performance against the Nets frustrated many fans in Philadelphia. Given the mounting pressures of his first season with the 76ers, his vacation posts struck a nerve, especially in a city known for its passionate sports culture.
He acknowledged that George, who spent several years in sunny Los Angeles, likely needed some time in the sun to recharge. In his defense, Beverley asserted that George’s time off was not only deserved but necessary. He believed that athletes should be allowed to step back and rejuvenate without facing backlash.
