NBA fans are feeling it for Victor Wembanyama following an announcement from the San Antonio Spurs indicating he’s done for the season.

The team is shutting the player down for the remainder of 2024/25 following his appearance at the NBA All-Star Game on Sunday due to the discovery of a blood clot in his right shoulder.

“San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama is expected to miss the remainder of the season with deep vein thrombosis in his right shoulder, the team announced Thursday,” ESPN reported on Thursday.

The team noted that the issue was discovered after Wemby returned to San Antonio from All-Star Weekend.

Deep vein thrombosis is a type of clot that could become extremely serious and life-threatening as it could travel to the lungs.

“People don’t realize this is life altering and possibly career ending,” a fan wrote in the comments following ESPN’s announcement

Victor Wembanyama Expected To Make A Full Recovery

Fortunately, a team source has told ESPN that the player is expected to make a full recovery and should be ready to play at the beginning of next season.

Wembanyama, a first-time All-Star this year, is the reigning NBA Rookie of the Year.  He was averaging 24.4 points, 11.0 rebounds, and 3.7 assists per game, also leading the league in blocks with 3.8 per contest in 46 games played.

However, he will be ineligible for the league’s awards, including the Defensive Player of the Year, which he was favored to win this season, as he did not meet the 65-game minimum.

Wembanyama’s medical issues come as a significant blow to the Spurs, who are already dealing with the absence of head coach Gregg Popovich, who is out indefinitely after suffering a stroke.

We wish them both the best.
